Just had the same thing happen to our minivan.......went to the Nissan dealer, since the Villager and the Nissan are the same van, and they actually had the parts in stock. Tell them what is wrong and have them pull up the schematic. You need 2 plastic buttons that push in the holes by the brake pedal. It cost about $10 for the 2 of them.

I have a 1993 Mercury Villager and my van is turned off but my brake lights are on and will not shut off.

Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs.

Rear tail lights on my 1999 mercury villager won't turn off

Your brake light switch is bad or it has slipped out from where it's mounted, against the brake pedal. The lights will stay on until you change or fix that switch. Have it checked.

1995 mercury villager, the other day i turned on my headlights and my dash lights went out and apparently so did my tail lights

tail lamps & dash lights are tied together on same circuit so you will know when back lights are out. See owner manual for fuses and relays to check. Some are under hood in battery box, some are in dash by left knee area.
clean the 2 small wires on the positive battery post. They supply 12 volts to everything but starter - big wire does that.

Tail Lights stay on all the time.

under the dashboard on the drivers side. look at the brake pedal lever. there should be a switch attached. push switch in and twist to remove. then pull the button as far out as it will go. while holding brake pedal down reinstall switch. then pull pedal up to top. this will reset the brake light switch. if they stay on still, then just replace the brake light switch.

Dash and cornering lights

I suspect you have a bad brake bulb in one of the rear tail lights.
