go to alldata.diy.com pay $20.00 to get detailed info on the trubo, most likey the hose is wore out the rubber hose and will have to be replaced the waste gate keeps from over boosting the engine so if the hose is worn the clamps won't hold it any more. remove the hoses on the turbo wiggle the turbo shaft back and forth and end to end there should be no play in the shaft if there is you need a turbo kit and can buy one to rebuild it, look up bell turbos in oregon on the net and get his number he can tell you the cost of the kit and how to rebuild. If you have excessive oil on the rubber hose then you have a blown oil seal and it will need to be replaced. you are lucky at this pont and the kit will come with what you need to fix the waste gate as well, but dought the gate is the problem.

Yes it will hurt the performance if yo do anything wire the waste gate shut. however the waste gate is on the inside of the turbo unless you have a special turbo that is not stock.

There is a waste gate on a turbo and that gate dumps the excess pressure in the manifold. There is a sensor that determines when the gate opens and closes. You need to run a diagnostic scan and see what the waste gate and sensors are doing.

we dont have this car. here. i think.
so are you asking how to diagnose turbo issues, on fixya
that be like asking how to do brain surgery on , Mr, PHIL
the PCM may see the boost too low for load and RPM.
so, that can be lots of things, besides a bad turbo cant spool.
even a stuck open waste gate.
or controls issues,
best is to get a complex car serviced, by someone that can work complex turbo diesels,

if serious on DIY, why not buy the book on the car
the FSM
then see the turbo section and do the tests stated there.

Are you getting turbo boost pressure, waste gate may be open check waste gate actuator. Check that BOV is not stuck open you could clean with some throttle body cleaner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=govRsNtY8DM

I would start looking at your boost control valve and vacuum lines going to your turbos waste gate, as well as the recirc/bypass valve. Usually when cars don't boost they have either stuck open waste gates or recirc valves. Or something is blocking the boost control valve from releasing the waste gate. Also make sure that all your intake hose clamps are tight so they are not releasing boost prematurely.

The Turbo Charger does not seem to engage .I was led to believe that after around 30 miles per hr. it would be like haveing a passing gear. Oh yes the car is a 1984 Nercedes SD 300 series Desiel.


The turbo charger has more to do with rpms than road speed.The turbo uses exhaust gas leaving the engine to push more fresh air into the engine thus creating higher compression and more horse power.You should feel some boost above 1500 rpms if everything is working properly.If not then you should have the system checked by a dealer or a good diesel shop.Good Luck!

the waste gate solenoid could be stuck in the open position causing the exhaust to bypass the turbocharger and not spool up causing the lack of power, so remove the turbo and check the exhaust outlet chamber and make sure that the gate isnt open

1986 300zx turbo . when driving at 25 to 30 mph and turbo build pressure , car stalls or bogs. i have change top and botom intake hose


sound like your waste gate is stuck open, you can unhook the small hose and apply 25 to 30 psi and check the movement of the waste gate,it only moves 0.40 of a in that not a whole lot, so just watch your movement of the rod, Thank you and I hope this helps you

change air filter.check waste gate actuator make sure its open the waste gate.look at the actuator rod make sure its not stuck.there should be movement.

hi is the waste gate stuck open on the turbo ? its a small round flap in side the turbo itmaybe stuck or broke if it looks ok mack sure it opens and closes ok useing the rod on the actuater
