Car engine locks itself and won't start

Says locked across radio screen and then dots car will drive but rpms gas radio speed don't register

Its a serious fault between the security system and your key. take it to a dealership and ask them to inspect it. they may direct you to an auto electrician who specialises in that problem

i had a 94 that ran into problems like that with very rough idles and misses. i get about five different codes from injectors to oxygen sensor. turned out my negative wire from the battery was so corroded inside the insulation it was causing all sorts of problems. bought new cable and ends from canadian tire $40.00 and installed (had to clean the connection to the block with sand paper) but fixed all my problems after that.

Tech notes This code is usually triggered when a not registered or damaged key is used to start the engine. When the starting operation is carried out five or more times consecutively with the same unregistered key, the system will lock. If the problem occurs try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes and then try starting the engine with a known registered key. If the problem persist you have to have the dealer erase the code and reprogram the keys again.

If problem persist after disconnecting the car battery, try the following:

ESCAPE FROM LOCK MODE
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Turn ignition switch ON with registered key. (Do not start engine.) Wait 5 seconds.
3. Return the key to OFF position.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice (total of three cycles).
5. Start the engine.

Have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, that will cause a high idle speed. As a 35 year veteran of auto repair I can tell you that engine flushs are a 100% waste of your hard earned money.

Friday while driving the dashboard gauges stopped working except the speedometer and RPMs. No air, no power locks or truck release. Also all the indicator lights you see when the key is on the on position...


It sounds like the anti-theft security system is engaged, this is keeping your vehicle from starting. I would recommend calling a local dealer where you are and ask them to help you. Hope this helps.

I have a 1999 Mazda 626 5 speed and my rpms seem to always be high weather I'm driving n town, 4th gear 30 mph 2100 rpm, or on the highway 5th gear 70 mph and rpms at 3100. This I'm sure is killing my gas...


check clutch for slipping condition,mayb due to worn clutch disc or a oil contaminated disc or a weak pressure plate not locking disc to flywheel therefore giving u a slipping condition and higher than normal rpms

I think I understand the question. These transmissions are known for the 4th speed shaft shearing off the splines. 4th being overdrive. This won't let it shift into overdrive and also no engine breaking when you are coasting. In other words, when you are coasting your engine rpms will drop down to idle speed. So when in 3rd or drive manual, you do have engine breaking and the rpms fall slowly. The transmission is gonna have to come out to be repaired. I hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my car I think its the torque converter clutch but you should visit a diagonestic machine just to find out
