Question about Chevrolet Impala
When I opened the door to the car, I can hear a whining, buzzing type noise. When I put the key in and turn to the first position, the sound stops. Only the check engine light shows and no other lights. The battery seems to be low due to the buzzing sound continuing. What could be the cause of the battery drain and what is the sound that is happening with no key in the ignition.
Low battery is probably a safe bet. Cars use electricity even when they are not running.

First things first. Do you have a volt meter to check the battery voltage? What engine do you have?
Let me know.

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Impala won't start
If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

Yes. Because the security system was "set". You need the code to unlock the security system for the radio. It is like that for theft pruposes. Best bet is to go to the dealership to have them reset it or figure out how to get the code for your radio.
