Transmission sensor 2000 f450 new trans just put in reverse works fine drive acts like it is slipping and sometimes it works ok is this a bad sensor if so witch one should I start with

SOURCE: 2000 Subaru Outback transmission problem

After a good deal of research and several shops suggesting a rebuild of the transmission, I decided to have the trans fluid and filters changed before doing anything. It was a tough call because it could have been a waste of $125. As soon as the spin off filter was removed you could see it was blocked. So the hydraulic pressure in the system was way down, still enough to engage reverse and enough to work all the shifts, but not enough to engage forward without a slight tap on the accelerator.

My Subaru has 240 000 km on it and I suppose the clutch pack rebuild wouldn't hurt, but as it is now it engages quickly and shifts up are noticeably smoother.

May not be the solution for every case, but it solved my situation.

Before guessing at transmission problems, check the fluid level (car warmed up, engine running in Park on level ground) and have the PCM scanned for trouble codes FIRST.
Secondly, put a line pressure gauge (or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan).
Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the rear of the trans may help (must remove valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan).
Soft shifting, gradual performance degradation: Poor line pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged EPC filter screen, failing EPC solenoid, or worst case: leaky seals throughout. Transgo HD2-C kit fixes first two without removing trans. Seal restorer may fix last problem, but probably R&R. Also try a transmission flush with BG brand products (Firestone stocks it).
No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. R&R, or refill pan and find the leak. If out of fluid, avoid running the engine until the trans is refilled to avoid pump damage. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken.
1-2 or 2-3 shift is slow/soft above part throttle: Trans is on its way out. R&R

this is a common problem with the dodge it is caused by the lip-seals inside the trans. getting hard from all the heating up and cooling down. the reason it goes away after it worms up is that the seals soften up with the heat it will get worse over time but there are some things you can do to help with the problem. first service the trany. ( change the filter and fluid ) and try adding some TRANS-X trany. treatment we have had great luck with this product in the past.

Hi, your trans sounds like a clutch slipping in drive or worn,
If it hasn't done to much damage to the clutch plates, sometimes the damaged parts can be changed, you'll find that most mechanics will want to rebuild it so there's no come backs,
i'd get your local trans guy to have a look,
might just need the bands adjusted,??

V70 poured new Dex3 auto trans in. Reverse gear stops working after a few days equal 500km, but all forward are still ok.


Sounds like your transmission is going bad. If your transmission is slipping only in drive or forward gears, then it could be just that it is low on fluid, but when reverse starts to slip it usually means rebuild/replace transmission.

I believe you have a slipping gears and looks like the gear box need overhauling. Take it to an Automatic Transmission Specialist to Diagnose.Do not leave it and use it any further,surely you will cause serious damage and cost.

either your rear driveshaft is missing, your rear axle is pooched. the same transmission drives both ends.

Transmission will not shift into reverse


Sounds like the shop didn't do their job right. Call them and take it back if you paid to have it rebuilt. It should not be your problem to solve it. Work should be guaranteed, and if it isn't, you should take matter up in civil court.

My 91 929 mazda starts and runs fine in reverse but wont go into drive. ive checked transmission fluid and everything i can think of. is the transmission out or am i missing something?


so it physically wont go into drive, or you shift into drive, but wont move? did it act OK before this? sounds like trans is bad.

check the fluid level and for a clogged filter in the trans. Is it making a buzzing noise like it's sucking air?

Not a sensor or solenoid problem.
