There is a current drain taking place. Check for simple things first, like glovebox or vanity mirror lights staying on, check all lighting to make sure it is off when truck is off. Beyond that the alternator needs to be tested and a technician needs to check for other causes for parasitic drain.

I have replaced the battery in the unit with a new battery. within a couple of weeks the battery is dead. what would cause a drain on the battery?

Your problem is either that the battery is not being properly charged, OR that there is a circuit that is drawing power from the battery when the vehicle's key has been removed and all is supposed to be off.

If new battery and just a few weeks old it is eligible for warranty replacement. Get a new one and see what happens. If that one also goes dead then you certainly have an issue like I indicated before.

1999 buich lesabre battery goes dead while parked

You have a phantom current draw that is killing your battery. Not especially difficult to troubleshoot if you have the tools and skill. If not, a service shop should be able to diagnose and repair the issue in a short time. 25312799-wng3opgl1pug32fsc4t4fc4i-5-0.jpg

Need to know how to change an external voltage regulator

If it only goes dead while sitting, your regulator isn't the issue. I'd hook up a trickle charger, or have someone start it for several minutes a week with no accessories (fan, A/C, lights) running.

What is the battery life expectancy for the 2006 Buick Lucerne?

Battery life is a very complicated issue, there are TONS of factors. High temperature kills batteries, if the fluid goes low, that kills batteries. If you forget and leave lights on, and the battery goes totally dead, (totally dead, zippo, not anything) that kills batteries.

Alternator diodes that fail kills batteries. So 4 to 8 years is typical life IN ABSENCE of the above types of issues. My favorite battery is Interstate. They just work really well. Costco has great battery prices, bumpy for service... Really Dislike Sears die easy.

Good alternator & battery, but battery goes dead just sitting

The regulator could be sticking in the alternator. Unplug the alternator and see if the battery goes dead. I replaced an alternator once and the new regulator was bad.
