Question about 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Car won't idle

Car will start. Will not idle under 1000 rpm. At a stoplight have to put in neutral and reve up to 1000 rpm. Will run ok on freeway. Comments would help.

First if the "service engine" light is on I would have a local retailer or garage see what the codes are. For possible TPS, IAC, or mass air flow problems. TPS being "throttle position sensor" IAC being "idle air control" If a light is not currently present, listen under the hood for a hissing noise or signs of a vaccum leak.

it sounds like you have a injector leaking down into one of your cylinders so it is flooding out a cylinder thus runs rough and long cranks.

Question, did you replace the throttle body, or clean the throttle plate, it will carbon up and block air needed for the idling speed to be correct. Also check for vacuum leaks, as the older vehicles didn't have good vacuum hoses. Good luck

You engine is TBI, It uses a MAP sensor check the vacuum line for crack and make sure yo have a good seal, The distributor also check and make sure the pick up does not have corrosion which causes the relutor to stick. As for the EGR it would cause a misfire, and yes the do fail. I am sticking with the IAC as a problem its a stepper motor and has a high failure rate, chack also the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) for corrosion that gives false reading.

Very possibly a vacuum issue. Maybe a line that needs vacuum for the trans is on an inlet that effects the throttle. Not sure how old your vehicle is.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

the idle air control valve can cause the symptoms your describing and it may not set a trouble code have it replaced and see if that repairs your issue

Car will start but will not idle. If RPM's not


Possible low fuel presure at idle. If new fuel filter does nt fix , then it will
require a new "fuel pump". Have you driven this car on low fuel level often?

This could be the TPS, or Throttle Position Sensor. Generally when there is an idle problem, this is the first thing to look at. Hope this helps

mine did the same thing take your turbo and ex manifold off look for cracks boost lag and replace any cracked ex parts or even turbo if cracked
