Loud heater after windshield replacement

Just left shop with new windshield. Heater now sounds similar to a small generator or something. This has never happened before and was not like this 2 hours ago. Badly-timed coincidence, or could something have happened during glass replacement?

If something fell into the defroster vent it could easily fall into the blower fan.I would tell the glass shop.

SOURCE: heater is out, apparently motor blower is out.

Keep using it and see what happens. Might be ok. Does the motor sound different from before?

Steam coming from windshield defroster

You probably have a bad heater core. These are located in the ac heater boxes either inside the car or on the firewall box. Moisture from that box will create fog like mist on your windshield..
replace heater core, it's similar to a radiator.

The windshield can only be repaired with the sealant
used by an auto glass shop

There is only one procedure for glass replacement &
you can't do it & anything you attempt to add to any place
on the glass will not work

Wait on the glass people to resolve

I can't switch from air to heater. It's like something is blocking it.

You'll probably need to go ahead and buy a shop manual to be able to disassemble the heater box. There may be glass pieces holding the blend door open or closed.

Mist coming out of my defrost vent almost like smoke gets the windshield foggy i have to wipe it off so i can see

this sounds like the heater core has a leak and is fogging the windsheild.ususally you can smell a sweet smell as well.i asumme that its doing this without the a/c on,if so then the heater core will have to be replaced,if it only happens with the a/c on then you could have a small leak in the evaporator(its the a/c equivalent to the heater core)

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/115,000 miles on it. It seems like the defroster vent is kicking up some kind of oily film onto the windshield. What could be causing that? Someone told me that the...

Not a bad gasket, as there is no gasket. The heater core has developed a small leak and needs to be replaced or repaired. This is a big job, as the entire dash has to come out of the Jeep. The cost of the part is $77 at autozone, but the labor is several hours at a good shop. We have the procedure and can send it if you would like to do this job yourself. Just let me know.

My battery dies with the engine off in my 2001 F-150. At one point the fan that blows into the cab would run with the engine off. What could be the problem?

This sounds like an issue some 97-03 MY F-150s have, where a windshield ( or roof panel ) leak down into the area by the Cab fuse panel, and soak the GEM ( Generic Electronic Module ), causing all sorts of strange problems.

Depending on how long this has been happening, resealing ( or replacing if bad enough ) the windshield is in order, and dry out of the dash area with a small space heater can cure the issue.

If this has been happening too long the GEM to Cab fuse panel ( it is bolted to the back of the cab fuse panel ) connector pins can be discolored / corroded and the fuse panel / GEM needs to be removed and the pins cleaned ( hard to do on the female connector ).

Here is the manual section on GEM removal for the 1997, the process is very similar on the '02 MY F-150

Vibrating noise from the dash at higher speeds

I've experienced a rapid frequency vbibration that sounds like it comes from the front left dash. I isolated it as the small plastic molding on the outside of the windshield, just below the windshield. There is a small plastic strip like molding piece that ends near the end of the windshield. I used some double sided foam tape sandwiched between the bottom of the molding and the plastic piece belwo it and that solved the problem. I have had to replace the tape every year or so

Floor and carpet wet

absolutely can be the windshield. With an assistant sitting inside the car to examine the windshield edges as you slowly apply a slow soft stream of water on trhe windshield, going slowly starting at the top. If in the end , no leak is found, examine inner firewall going up under dash for water drippage. No guarrantee the leak is the windshield. Could be a side door or window leaking. Imagine if your carpet was soaked with engine coolant. Could be the heater core leaking into the inside of the car.
