SOURCE: noisy water pump pulley, alternator pulley..timing belt tensioner

I have a 1995 xj6....same problem. I replaced the belts, water pump, and the alternator. Still does it. As I play with the tension on the belt (belt that drives water pump, alternator) it goes away and comes back. If I remove the belt, the metal to metal screech stops. I then, with just the belt, turned the main pulley on the front of the engine, and there was the sound! The main pulley has 2 belts that run on it. Also, 2 pulley tracks. They SHOULD move simultaneously and be super meshed. But the rear one moves on its own under tension until it warms up and I guess, the bushing maybe expands. Now.....how do I fix it??????

SOURCE: How to change the toyota's yaris belta's battery?

Open the hood.

Always remove the negative (-) cable first, then the positive (+). Then unscrew the battery mounting hardware and lift out.

Assembly is a reverse of the above.

I have a 1997 Toyota Avalon. I've been having overheating issues. I replaced the radiator, but am unsure about if my water pump. I cannot find a diagram of the engine showing me where it is located.

water pumps give very little trouble other than bearings and seal
look for other more likely problem areas such as
head gasket ---have a compression test done
thermostat---have it checked
if electric fan/s --check relay, fuses, coolant temperature sensor unit
if viscous fan --replace viscous fan hub

High engine noise while ac is on

This can be due to noise on the belt the idler pulley or the compressor. When the AC is switched on the strain of the compressor can cause this noise. Also if the bearings of the alternator or the water pump is faulty this can cause the noise when the ac belt is loaded.
finally a strain within the engine when the engine is loaded can be due to setting within the engine.

I had the same problem in my 3sFE, I thought the same way you did, but it turn out to be the fan, check if there is any play in the fan, change it and your scrutching noise will be no longer there

Engine noisy when idling

It could be faulty fan belts, pour some water while the engine is idling into the belt and observe if the noise has lessened. In such case switchoff engine use some wax or chalk to rub into the belt. this may be a relief for some time.
further it can be fault with the idling pulley, the water pump bearing also can make a noise at lower RPM.

2006 Toyota Corolla w/VVT-I 16 valve with 66K miles - screeching sound from engine compartment, belts seem good.

hi, i know you say the belts seem good but one way to rule the fan belt or alternater belt out is to pour water onto the belt and if the noise stops then the chances are the belt needs tightening.
If how ever you still have the noise then this would point towards one of the pulleys bearings running dry you can try putting oil into where the bearing is its difficult to get the oil in their as their is very little gap so using a spray oil would be your best option.

If after doing this you still have the noise then your going to have to replace the pulley thats giving you the noise to find out witch pulley it is spray each one in turn with spray lube and see witch one makes the noise less and then this is the one that needs replacing.

Your power steering pump can give you the noise your getting if the fluid is to low so make sure you check all the levels ok.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
