SOURCE: Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 litre

Same problem for me. The car would idle at about 2500 when started from cold and about 3 miles on would not idle at all, resulting in the revs dropping off when changing gear or stopping. Also rather jerky in top gear unless thrashed - numerous trips to the garage for air idle valve, injectors etc. but still a problem! Have just found out that GVs are a bit prone to carbon build up in the throttle body - mine was almost blocked - it now feels like a different car.

SOURCE: above speed of 80 km/h slight vibration can be felt and continues

if you google "grand vitara vibration" you will find a discussion board about the many many grand vitaras getting around with a vibration problem. I happen to be one of these people and am seriously thinking of selling the car after all the problems I have. It appears to be a drive train design fault which will cost a fortune to fix, believe me its not a tyre problem, ive had 4 wheel alignlents and balances and it never seems to fix the problem.Take it to a mechanic and let them have a good look at it.

Its below the Dashboard, on the left side of your knee. You have to use a torch & locate it from under the Dashboard, Its roughly near to the Clutch Pedal.
Here, it looks like this: (The Black one is the Fuse box) ba18901.jpg

2000 cadillac seville , temp gauge goes to over 1-2 clicks about normal and then return back to normal,

Check your water level. If coolant is fine, then you might have to change your thermostat. Also your waterpump might be getting weak. When a water pump goes bad, there are bore holes that will leak, have you noticed any coolant on the ground or under the hood? If so where? Sometimes the thermostat starts sticking as the vehicle gets older, or a higher temp thermostat is installed. If this happens, like low coolant, the car has to run to a certain temp before the fan comes on to cool it. If you check all that and it still does the same thing, flush your cooling system. If you check all of this and still have a problem, let me know and I will help you fix it. Hope this helps

Engine misses when cold only under load comes and goes for about 3 mins then all ok runs well after that

Sounds as though the problem is when in open loop

That is when it is cold & your temp sensor & computer
control fuel injector timing

As the temp goes up the O2 Sensors take over

I would guess the O2 Sensors are over 100,000 miles
You should clean MAF Sensor
Install Spark Plugs-if over 70,000 miles
Also new thermostat & possibly a new temp sensor

Under a load, that puts the EGR Valve into the picture
as vacuum is high

Is it ok to drive without the thermostat valve in place? The old one got stuck in closed position and I removed it while I get the replacement.

The thermostat is used to get the engine to operating temp as quick as possible(by shutting off coolant flow to the radiator) and then keep it there(by opening and closing) to aid optimum fuel consumption and emissions.
The vehicle will therefore take longer to heat up and the temperature guage will not remain constant(as engine temp will now fluctuate) but the vehicle is safe to drive this way. Take care not to gun the motor until it has reached operating temperature as this unnecessarily increases wear.

Grand vitara radiator over heating

I have had brand new Thermostats that are bad. The way to check a thermostat is to boil it in water and see when it opens. You may need to have your radiator cleaned or roded out. You can also remove your thermostat and see what happens then I would start by flushing the system and see what you get.
