My serpentine belt squeaks after starting, continues as engine warms. I applied a small amount water with garden hose, quiets belt for 4-5 minutes, then returns.

SOURCE: water pump

no need to pull the engine off. if you ar sure that there are no more bolts holding the water pump, tap it lightly with a hammer in the separation position . it is just stuck with the gasket. im sure it will come off the engine.

SOURCE: 97 f 150 runs hot for minutes then runs ok

It could be a faulty thermostat. Did it do the same thing before u replaced the t-stat? It sounds like it's sticking closed, then all of a sudden it opens, coolant flows correctly. I'd consider changing it again. Check to make sure parts store is giving u the correct temperature thermostat also. Maybe it's too high for your Ford, delaying the opening.

SOURCE: serpentine belt squeaks on startup

You can not tighten the belt, it is held on by the Belt's located a little to the left side of the it maybe getting weak, or your belt may need to be replaced...Sometimes they look good, with no cracks, but they get worn and streched out over time..or it may look shiny..either one of those will cause it too squeak..

My serpentine belt is a little bit loose. Do I tighten the belt using the tensioner or should I use the pry the alternator forward method?

The tensioner is an automatic device. You DONT Adjust it. Sounds like you need a new belt and probably should replace the tensioner. Tensioner have a limited lifespan usually 75000 to 100000 miles

Ck all units that run against the belt, something is probably locked up and causing the belt to squeak.

Squeaking rotary noise from engine

It is possible you have a glazed belt - it is fine, it just slips until it warms up. If you have "V" belts, there is a belt dressing you can spray on that will cure the problem. If you have serpentine belts ( a wide belt that has several ribs on the inside ) you can us a small dab of Dielectric grease on the belt. smear a small dab across the ribs of the belt ans start the engine - the squeal should go away quickly.
Hope this helps!

1992 dynasty,serp.belt keeps falling off

Either your "belt tensioner" is bad (meaning, not applying the right amount of tension to the belt) or your serpentine belt could be worn or stretched.

How difficult is is to change the water pump on a 2000 Chevy Silverado and are there special tools needed?

Hi, my name is Ben. I wouldn't call this a difficult repair, but it is time consuming. You may need a special tool to help you remove the water pump pulley.
Remove the air intake duct, remove the upper radiator shroud, remove the fan assembly, loosen the bolts on the water pump pulley a few turns before removing the serpentine belt, then remove the serpentine belt, now remove the water pump pulley, if it's a V-8 remove the lower radiator hose and thermostat housing, unbolt the water pump, if it's tight lightly tap it with a RUBBER mallet. Important, clean the gasket surfaces very well. apply a thin coat of RTV on both gasket surfaces and install a new gasket. On V-6 engines use a small amount of the RTV on the bolt threads. The rest in the reverse of removal. Once completed, refill with coolant and check for leaks, bring the engine to notmal operating temperature and turn the heat on high

The serpentine belt squeaks. I'll check the belt & the tensioner. Anything else I should look for?

The Corolla's has a hydralic belt tensioner. When you replace the serp belt you need to buy a factory Toyota belt. The reason why the after-market reproduction belts are slightly long or short. This
will either cause a squeaky belt problem or a over adjusted belt condition which could burn up one of your engines accessories (p/s pump, alt. etc.)

Squelling belt

Yes, it could be.
The fact that it quiets might mean that the internal seals are leaky allowing water to enter bearing surfaces that dry, then squeal.

Look for any traces of the water pump starting to drool; there is a hole (normally underneath) that allows water to drain if the seals fail.
