Question about 2005 Ford Freestar

Open Question

My 2005 Ford Freestar Van is making a noise when I turn left or right. It sounds like a knocking sound from the back and when I'm pulling out of a parking space or driveway, there is a struggling sound coming from the front. My brake light has been on since October 2013 and I haven't gotten it checked. Also, when I turn on my heat in the car, the windows fog up completely, so I turn on the defroster to clear it up before turning on the heat. Is it time for me to retire my car, I figured it's old because I have 120,000 miles. I don't know anything about cars, I just drive! Please tell me what's wrong with my car, these noises are making me nervous.

SOURCE: Ford Escape engine light on/blinking, faint knocking noise

If your check engine light came on when the problem occurred, then you need to have the diagnostic codes read. I am cheap, so I would suggest going to an Advance or Auto Zone, they will read the codes and interpret them for you in hopes of selling you the part that will fix it. Good Luck. I hope you find this very helpful!

SOURCE: 2005 Ford Freestar. Started car,

These are common for stripping the splines in the torque converter for the pump shaft. If it did this when you check the fluid with the engine running it will read overfull. To fix it you would have to remove the transmission and replace the torque converter.

It really sounds like you have a front wheel bearing that has gone out. This would make the anti-lock system fail so you would have a brake light indicator on.

2005 Ford Freestar has started contantly beeping when in any gear except park. Sounds like it is coming from inside - in the back of the van. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem we got the van checked there is NOTHING wrong with the engine. it just randomly beeps its a set of 5 beeps about 4 times. its seems like it could be a check engine sound but no lights are on the dash.

When Im backing up and turn my wheel to the right it makes a clunking sound

You may be against the stops. this is a mechanical stop and if ANY suspension movement happens, there is a noise. Try slightly less than full turn to the right and backing up....if no noise, lube the turning stops with lubriplate (grease).
If the noise persists, investigate VC joints.

A popping noise from underneath - as the van slows, not every time, but enough to concern me.

Does this occur when turning? Typically a Universal Joint will make such a sound when accelerating while turning.

If this helps, please rate highly

Rear suspension left side makes a knocking sound while driving

There are a few suspension parts that can cause knocking noises. Such as swar bar loose, strut mounts going bad. You should really have a shop do a complete suspension check.
