Unless you are absolutely sure that it is not in 4wd --what you describe is the effect of 4wd on hard surface where there is a torque wind up in the drive train system trying to drive all wheels and not allowing a diff action to work

SOURCE: Ticking noise, grinding noise when turning, front wheel looks off

For the occasionally turning sound:
Sounds to me like you may want to check your CV boots for cracks. If water and other debris has got up into the boot then it could have damaged your cv joint which is a swivel joint to allow turning on front wheel cars. The boot is right at the point where your axle meets the wheel assembly.

The second problem with the transmission: with that kind of miles on the car, you may want to change the transmission fluid and filter and then add a container of TransX, used for older transmissions. Then see what happens. The TransX additive helps with seals and such... or you could just add the TransX to your transmission while its warm , drive it about 100 miles and hopefully see the effects.

SOURCE: My tacoma makes a loud roaring noise while I am

have your wheel bearings checked out. sounds like a wheel bearing going bad, if you said it gets worse when turning right have your left wheel bearings checked for wear. weight transfer will put more strain on the bearings and make them louder.

Any ideas why a 2003 chevy trailblazer may vibrate in the front but stops when you turn left

Does the vehicle make any noises while driving? If there is a "growling or roaring " noise associated with the vibration, check the right front hub bearing. If there are no noises and only vibration, check the right front upper ball joint and control arm bushings. The Trailblazer's upper ball joint and control arm bushings become worn and cause the tire and wheel assembly to shimmy while driving. The vibration stops when turning left because of weight transfer to the right side which keeps the wheel steady for a moment. Also, check the tire for irregular wear.

Tip

Front End Noise, Steering and Suspension

Noise in the front end of any make, model vehicle. Put a jack under the lower control arm and jack the left wheel off the ground, the trick is to try to get it at normal ride hight, grab the tire at the top and bottom and try to push and pull the top in and out inline with the ball joint. have a helper eye the ball joint and see if there is any motion(play) at the joint. If not, check the bottom the same way. if they are both good, try it side to side to check the tie rods for play, make sure the steering wheel is locked. Then do the same for the right side. If all checks good than it is probably the cv joint if the truck is four wheel drive, if it is not four wheel drive it's definately is not a cv joint because you don't have them. This Applies if your car is front wheel drive or your truck is four wheel drive model, go to a large parking lot, put the truck in a tight left turn, this will stress the cv joint, making it click, you will hear the noise from the side with the bad joint. Then make a hard right turn, then do the same things again, this time driving in reverse. That should allow you to isolate the noise, Please rate this four thumbs up if it helped, i appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Bob

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

My car makes a bad growling noise. Everyone said that it was a front wheel bearing because that tire was worn down really bad on the outside. I replaced the passenger front wheel bearing, and it is still...

WHEEL BEARING USUALLY STARTS MAKING A ROARING TYPE NOISE WHICH USUALLY GETS LOUDER THE FASTER YOU DRIVE, SOMETIMES THEY WILL BE LOOSE , TO CHECK JACK UP THAT WHEEL AND GRAB TOP AND BOTTOM OF TIRE AND SHAKE, IF THERE IS MOVEMENT, TRY TO GET SOMEONE TO ROCK TIRE FOR YPU AND WATCH WHERE AXLE GOES INTO CENTER OF BEARING AND SEE IF AXLE IS MOVING WITH TIRE MOVEMENT AND SPINDLE REMAINS STATIONARY, THEN IT IS BAD BEARING, OR SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE NO MOVEMENT, THEN BLOCK REAR WHEELS AND RUN CAR WITH THAT WHEEL IN AIR AND SEE IF YOU HEAR NOISE, GOOD LUCK.

Left turns sometimes makes knockin noise seems left front, i see that the outside of that tire is worn too. I had front brakes/rotors replaced and seems since then it was happenin but not always

The car makes a howling noise while driving it

well did the noise start after the tires were rotated?could be choppy tires,,,if not ,i strongly think it sounds like a bad wheel bearing,,,,if you drive and while its making the noise turn left and right quick and see if the noise gets louder and which way turning makes it louder,,if you turn leftand it gets louder its usually the right wheels bearing as you are putting load on it, if it makes the noise louder while turning right its the left wheel bearing,,,got it

Rumbling in front tires

You probably have a bad wheel bearing or bad tire on left front. when making right turn left front wheel wil spin faster than right making noise louder.
