Question about Saturn SL2
WHen the light came on originally my mechanic found that the error code said the ECU/M module was the problem. He ordered an OEM part and replaced the old unit. He programmed the new unit and I was able to drive the car home. Several days later (car was parked not used) my son tried ot drive the car, it would start run roughly then die. Eventually it wouldn't even start. My mechanic replaced the new module with the old one and got it back to his shop. There was no code on the new module because he had to disconnect the battery before changing the units. He put the new one back in and drove the car for several days waiting for the problem to reoccur. He had no issues so I brought the car home. I drove it once with no issues, but the second time after shifting into third gear I got no throttle response, it took a couple minutes to go from 40 to 55 mph. The engine seemed to run smoothly enough just no pick up. After work, it started up no problem, and I drive it home with no issue. Then a couple days later my son experienced the same problem I did, but it happened to him in first gear and the engine seemed to be missing on a cylinder. The old ECU works ok, but there is no telling for how long, the new one continues to have these intermittent problems, does anyone have an idea what may be causing the computer to do what it is doing?

U DON'T HAVE A CARBURETOR SO FORGET THAT, THE FUEL REGULATOR WOULD NOT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I AM A GM FACTORY TECH AND KNOW THIS WITH CERTAINTY. U COULD HAVE SLUDGE IN THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL AIRBYPASS VALVE.
