Question about 1999 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Strong Crank with no start

Just got my car going after about 8 months of non use. Only problem at first was battery was drained. Took to the dealership and after a long trickle charge it tested perfect. While sitting at work the other day my car stalled while idling (was on break at the time). Temperature outside was around 20-30 degrees and hadnt been in the car for more than 10 minutes or so. After stall she wouldn't start. Cranks at regular speed but will not turn over. Have replaced the Main Relay (RZ-0158) to no avail. Fuel pump is priming but have no spark in any cylinder using a standard spark tester. Thinking at this point it is a distributor problem but dont have the cash for a tow/mechanic to look at and would prefer fixing myself. Dont want to replace another part that doesnt need to be done (old relay was in rough shape though). First time this problem has occurred. No problems before the long sit. Thanks in advance for any help!!

No spark can be from crank / cam position sensors failure , broken wires
check to see that the timing belt/chain has not broken
have the fault codes read

From sitting so long corosion does build up on all connections of the electrical system. Corrosion will lead to shorts in the system stopping the battery current to flow. Inspect and clean any discolored nuts and bolts to the battery, alternator, and wire connectors to the fuse block. Do this of course with the negative battery cable disconnected

First step is to charge, check & replace the battery. It is probably dead or weak. Next is fuel issues gas is only stable for a month before it begins to break down and absorb water. System needs to be drained.& filter replaced. Then go from there.

Kangoo van 17dci laying for 8 weeks and now wont start

when you say won go do you mean that there is no power at all,( flat battery,) there is power only lights in the dash? First of all check whether you do have powerful Battery for a crank start. If not then ask for a help from a qualified electrician to jump start it by means of a strong battery and leads. 8 weeks it is a long time for a battery to drop power down possible completely dead if the battery is old.

Not sure I am following your question.
If the engine cranks, the battery starter and alternator are working.
If you have to crank the engine for an extended period of time, it is not getting spark or fuel or both.
If it happens mainly during cold weather, and the first start of the day, I would check fuel pressure before and after you crank it.

why do you need a stealership?
ever heard of and ASE certified shop....
its not the ECU
it s not sensor
is non of that, at all, its the STARTER SYSTEM.
its a NO CRANK
here are the tests.
17 of them.
why did it start jumped
corroded battery lugs
battery dead.? for many reasons not just battery
or what? its only a dead battery.

its this.
battery , cables, starter, wires, TRS switch and keyswitch.
only THAT. and 1 starter relay.
the ECU does not crank your engine, you do .

the iddiott lamps told you the Cluster computer was nuts
as all do lacking full power, 10v or less all go NUTS
as do all computers made with power is not at spec.
that was your clue to , voltage is not right.
charge the battery would be next.(or barrow one)
then when it started as it surely would
you see if the charge lamp is out. in cluster.?
if 'out the alternator may be ok.
what can happen is 3 things:
bad battery (or just discharged)
bad alternator system (car will stall in 1 hour or less if this fails driving) 40amp/hr, rules.

or phantom drains. (battery drains as you sleep or work an 8 hr shift)

http://jeepdied.com/phantom/phantom%20drains.html

good luck and do ask questions
top quest is , why does a starter fail to work?

(answer it not the ECU/PCM or EFI systems)
