Question about Hyundai Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My new 2013 Hyundai Accent which, has 2,200 miles & a GDI engine, makes a muffled, short, boom, boom sound three or four times. The sound is coming from the rear when idling at a traffic light or stopped in traffic and is sporatic. This sound seems to happen after morning start and about 10 minutes of driving when stopped at a traffic light or traffic. The sound quits with further driving. At first I thought it was the car behind me playing music but my daughter who was in the back seat said that it was our car. Any thoughts.

SOURCE: A loud sound shortly after starting my car

I'm guessing that you Expedition has been making this noise probably since you've had it? Even if it hasn't, I think I can bring you some comfort. If you could pinpoint where the noise was coming from under the hood, would you say that it's somewhere over on the passenger side? My dad owns a 1998 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition, and we noticed a loud noise with the same habits as what you're describing. Come to find out, there is an air compressor under the hood, I can't remember exactly what it's for, but the sound that I believe you're hearing is the compressor filling up with air and then shutting off once the proper amount of pressure is reached. You might try popping the hood to try to locate the exact place that it's coming from, but I can tell you that it's probably a 99% chance that when you find your noise, you'll find the compressor I'm referring to. Hope this proves to solve your issue and helps to ease your worries. Have a wonderful evening!

SOURCE: 2004 F150 5.4L engine misfire

The concern is likely caused by the coil which sits on top of the spark plug. Your P0301 indicated misfire on cylinder 1. Your P0316 indicated it occurs on the first 1000 revolutions. Your P0171 indicated lean on bank one. Bank one includes cylinders 1,2,3 and 4. Your lean code is strange but could be related to misfire. I would recommend swap the coil on number one with number two. Clear the code and drive it. I would expect to see a P0302 which indicates the misfire traveled with bad coil. good luck.

Same with my 07 Accent. bought new in 07, noise started last spring 2013 at 63,000 miles, a year later at 97,000 getting louder but still rolling along, high speeds and pulling a trailer some of the time. Cannot believe a bad bearing would last that long.

hyundai recommends replacing the belt every 60,000 miles or 48 mos and this is an "interference" engine which means if the belt breaks, it will cause internal engine damage. happy holidays

hello, if you car stalls instanly maybe your ignition system has a loose connection or even has a short somewhere. but if it coughing but still trying to idle normally maybe your carb dirty. one thing, some carbs has a solenoid air switch attached on one of its side. if this solenoid is shorted damaged you'll have the same effect. hope this helps.

check out the lemon laws in your state.... as well as asking to speak to the service manager about the issue. if that doesn't work ask to speak to the area rep for hyundai until you get this fix... keep records of what they have done and whom and what you have spoken to them about.
