98 olds intriuge fuel pump relay switch - 1998 Oldsmobile Regency

If the relay is pulled, the fuel pump should not be running. If the mechanic is right, there is a short and your pump is getting electricity from somewhere it shouldn't. If that's not the case, the mechanic could be wrong. Post what the original problem was as a comment please.

The fuel pump will come on then, shut off when the key is placed in the ON position, this is normal. What is not normal, is when the key is turned to start the engine, and the fuel pump does not run when the engine is running at the same time. The initial power up you hear is a prime function that all vehicles have.

I dont think it has a fuel pump relay. Should be Ign. then fuse in fuse box then fuel pump in tank.

You should hear a soft buzz or something from a relay. You can try hitting on it, not to hard though. Sometimes, it will not make a noise. I would change the relay first. It it a lot cheaper then a fuel pump.
