SOURCE: four wheel drive will not work on 1995 geo tracker

You need to take the cover off your hub and clean and grease the lock ring. It is attached to the spring. It sounds as though your hub is rusted open.

SOURCE: we need to know how

One of you can break down and buy a 3 dollar owners manual from a used manual vendor on ebay and make a copy for the other. Then both of you could read it and have the answers to many questions, including this one.

4x4 K1500 Chevy Truck, 4 wheel drive repair instructions

There are a number of different hub systems so this may not work but it has worked for me on both auto and manual locking hubs. On a flat surface without traffic. Put the trans into neutral, shift the transfer case into 4x4, shift the trans into reverse and back the truck up 15-20 feet. Completely stop and shift trans into drive. See if this has locked the hubs in. If not, you can also try following the same instructions except shifting into 4wd low. Sometimes the hubs need a "bump" to get them to slip into place. Keep In mind that if the 4 wd low select works, you need to shift it back into 4 wd high before continuing! When taking the truck out of 4wd to 2wd, I recommend the same, shift to neutral, select 2wd, back truck up, shift back to drive and check. Its entirely possible that your hubs need maintenance (they're often overlooked) but hopefully this will get you going. Please let me know if thus worked or if I can offer other suggestions. Good luck!

I have a 1993 ford f150 4x4 i cant get it out of 4 wheel drive it still drive in 4wd how do i fix this problem

if it has automatic lock in hubs only!! start truck, put truck in neutral, push button for 2x2 shift into reverse, back up 5to 10 feet, truck should shift back into 2x2 automatically. shift into drive and the 4x4 light should go off. if you have manual lock hubs you''ll need to unlock those manually on the 2 front wheels.w/truck in neutral and emergency brake on or someone holdling brake inside truck,go to front and rotate the locking hubs to front tire or wheels in centerof hub to free wheel.they will be marked,or should be. if not, then try turning the center of hub switch counter clockwise until it stops turning, then go to passenger side and turn it counter clockwise. thank you for choosing fixya.

How to use fourwheel drive

On an 86 you probably still had the hub locks on the outside. You have to get down off the truck and manually turn the hubs to the lock position. The hubs are located in the middle of the wheel. Then Put the 4 wheel drive gear shift to 4 hi or 4 low. At the low level it runs very slowly and very low geared. At 4 hi, it runs normal but the 4 wheel drive engages. When you are not using the 4 wheel drive it is good that you get off the truck and turn the hubs counter clockwise to the off position.

How do i use four wheel drive in the snow

Put the transmission shifter in neutral, shift the transfer case into 4 wheel high, for regular road speeds, you need to know if you have manual or automatic locking hubs, if they are manual go to each front tire and turn the switch on the hubs to the lock position, put the transmission shifter in gear and go. Be careful and don't drive like you're invincible. JKust because you have a 4x4 vehicle does not mean you will not loose control.
