The warning lights are on because the abs system is disabled.
You would need to scan the computer for trouble codes then fix the problem to keep the lights off.

  • You have done just about everything possible to this truck. I know how it feels to do so much and not have much of a change. The problem at this point sounds like the brake booster is bad. The brake booster is a helping hand of sorts used when you press the brakes. Air is used to help you stop. With disk/rotor brakes the pressure needed to stop is far greater than with the cylinder/shoe style brakes. So when the booster goes out it is very difficult seemingly impossible to press down on the brake pedal.

  • It is possible you have a vacuum leak somewhere too. Make sure no valves were installed backwards when installing the master brake cylinder.
  • You should also have the vehicle scanned and the codes read to see exactly what is going on. When the codes are read you will have a clear picture of what it can be. After spending so much time and money with the repairs you have made you would not to continue until you are sure although what I have listed are my suspicions. I also recommend you have it scanned with with a scanner not a simple OBDII code reader. You can try the OBDII but it may not be as precise. Early 2000 Durango's had a lot of problems with this.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here and I will respond.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

There are ABS wheel speed sensors on the front wheels behind the hubs. It is possible if the hub where replaced either the pick up ring mounted to the hub itself was not installed or might have purchase non abs hubs or they just did not switch the wheel speed pickup ring on the new hub. Another thing could be either the wheel speed sensors are mis adjusted or when they replaced the hubs they hung the spindle by the abs wire and either pulled it out of socket or messed up the wires internally. Here is a basic abs system http://www.ehow.com/how_8511860_diagnose-abs-brakes.html if you have any other questions please let me know. Also please leave good feedback.

Dodge Dakota overdrive and ABS/brake problem

The problem could be in your differential. If the ABS traction ring has any defects in the teeth, the rear wheel speed sensor will stop registering and disable your ABS.
This may not resolve your transmission concern, but it may answer your ABS/Brake light problem.

How do I replace the driver front wheel bearing on a 2001 dakota

If it is 4X4 you will need to remove your hub assembly. Then If, 2 wheel drive you will need to remove your brake assembly. The dust cover to get access to axle nut. Remove the cotter pin, then the nut. Be careful of the ABS connection on the back of your hub. Replace bearings, races and the seal. Let me know if you need to know how to load your bearings and I’ll go into more detail.
