SOURCE: replacing a rear axle on a 94 jeep grand cherokee 2wd

take the rear cover off of the rear end. make sure you have something to let the fluid drain in. turn the carrier until you see a 5/16ths bolt. take the bolt out and let the pin in the center of the carrier slide down enough to be able to slide the axle inward. that will release the c-clip. then when the c-clip i removed you can just pull the axle out of the houseing but mak sure to not let the carrier spin any while you are pulling the axle out.

Sounds like your thinking in the right area. Up on stands or hoist look for ripped boot, and/or movement at joint.

SOURCE: Noise coming from my passenger side wheel well

yes, it could be, and probably is, to check this, jack the car up, and see if you can wiggle the tire, up and down, or side to side. also, you might want to check your brake pads. hope this helps!!!

SOURCE: I think I need to

  • This sounds like the HUB (bearings) to me. A CV axle will clack, especially going around turns. I had this 93 Eagle Vison one time that the bearings were so bad I almost needed earplugs to drive down the road. Naturally I neglected them a bit longer than I should have but this is almost surely your problem.
  • You can jack that wheel off the ground and grab that tire at the top with one hand and the bottom with the other hand and try to move it back and forth in an upwardl/downward movement. If it has any play then your bearings are shot. Sounds like they are already but this is yet another test.
  • Change it soon before that wheel locks up.
Regards, Tony

SOURCE: pontiac grand prix passenger side cv axle

ello, ello. You just push hard till you hear the little circlip on the end of your axle shaft "click", meaning it has seated inside the transmission.

Why do i hear a dinging sound when apply brakes on 1996 dodge grand caravan ??

Noise is caused by brakes wearing. Either brakes shoes are worn, disc is out of round. Sound you hear is metal rubbing on metal, never a good sound. Contact auto repair or brake shop for repairs immediately

2005 Ford Explorer is making a grinding noise

I had some issues with my 2005 explorer left rear. It was making a creepy old door sound at low speeds and then a high pitched whisel at high speeds. That turned out to be a broken wheel bearing and had it replaced. Note each wheel has two wheel bearings. After that a new noise developed that sounded like metal scraping/ grinding metal. It end up being the brake dust cover got bent when they replaced the bearing and it was rubbing something, the fix for that was bending it so it didn't rub. I hope this helps.

I have a noise and slight vibration coming from my front end

Possible have a caliber not retracting all the way and the brake shoe is slightly scrubbing the rotor. Don't overlook the possibility of wheel bearings or CV joints.

I had a constant grinding coming from front passenger tire. Replaced Caliper and put the worn pads back on for a day, the constant grinding went away. It would still grind while braking, hitting a bump

It sounds like the brake pads are metal to metal, when you turn the flexing of the wheel makes them touch the rotor and grind. This can rarely be caused by a badly worn wheel bearing as well, have both brakes and wheel bearing inspected.

We have a banging underneath the front, we think, which sound,s like metal on metal. we hade a mechanic with a tester on and it didn,t show anything worn or loose. on 2006 Grand Caravan. How can we fix...

If you mean the mechanic plugged in a code reader and didn't get any codes, some engine troubles won't make the light come on. You can't fix what you don't know is wrong so try this. Does it make the noise if the car is NOT moving? if it only makes the banging while driving then I would be looking for a loose body part. If it makes the noise while sitting still then you need to find a mechanic that can "listen" to the engine noise and determine if it is coming from the "top end" or "bottom end' of the engine.

I have a 98 chevy 1500 series that is making a rubbing sound in the front driver side, also you can feel it **** when you are driving. could it be a wheel bearing and if so how much does this usually cost...

is it a four or two wheel drive? It is my understanding that the C designates two wheel drive and that the K designates 4 wheel drive? If it is a two wheel drive it will narrow the problems down a fair bit, if it is 4 wheel drive constant then then there a couple of things i would check first. Secondly is the rubbing noise sound like a metalic grind?, a rubbery sound or a loud fast clicking noise?

Wheel makes rubbing sound when driving slow

You should check the dust shield on the caliper. Sometimes they get bent inward especially if driving in deep snow. It is just a thin piece of sheet steel that protects the inside of the brake rotor. Hope this helps.
