Question about Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

Battery charging system

I have a 1987 camaro. When I start the car the charging indicator is below charging level. When I drive maybe 100 feet the charging goes to proper level. What could be the problem?

SOURCE: 2002 Nissan Sentra car will not start but battery is 100% charged, will start when boosted though

check your battery cables to see if the cables themselves are corroded and also check the connections where they connect to the vehicle that they are clean
positivecable will connect at the starter and the negative will connect to the engine some where.
if this does not help then have your starter tested to see if it is dragging. as it could be the armature or the brushes in the starter.

The coolant level sensor is contaminated. It happends over the years. You can try and pull it out and clean it off or just replace it. The sensor is located below the radiator cap, 57eb3d9.jpg

SOURCE: low battery gauge indicated

Not necessarily, this can also be caused by poor battery cable connections or a bad battery cable or a bad connection to the gauge or just a bad gauge.Check or have them checked first, and then have the alternator output tested,a voltmeter connected at the battery posts should measure 14.5 to 14.8 volts at an idle, any lower than this than the alternator is the problem.

You say the alternator is good, but it sounds like it is not charging the battery. Have you had the charging system tested on the truck ?
Could be the main fuse for the alternator. Its usually large, 80 or 100 amp in size.

Sounds like your alternator isn't charging your battery.

Please check the condition of your battery and charging system. Hydro the battery ... it should read at least 1200. Your alternator should be putting out at least 13 volts.

The batteries one gets today will not tolerate being stored for a long time and will fail internally. If you check with a multimeter (cheap- under $20 US at Radio Shack or auto parts stores) you will probably find the terminal voltage even after charging will be below the 12.6 nominal and probably will fail very rapidly after the engine is off. It likely has one or more shorted cells and each one is a loss of ~2 volts.

1987 Camaro Battery Drain

Did you try checking voltage output/charging at battery, then revving engine a bit and holding it at a higher rpm than idle to see if it is charging then? Yes if you suspect a bad connection, then repair it for sure, but try this just to see. I forget what years, but at one point in time, a lot of alternators didn't charge until rpm's were increased. You checked voltage with lights, heater, etc on at idle didn't you, then with all that off, to see if alternator keeps up with accessories & drain?

01 camaro drive by wire reduced engine speed

This is what I find from other webpost..

Condition:
Some customers may comment on an MIL/SES light Illuminated with the" Reduced Engine Power" message or indicator displayed. A technician may find two or more of the following DTCs stored in the ECM:

P060E : Control Module Throttle Position (TP) System Performance

P1516 : Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

P2135 : Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

P2138 : Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

Cause:
A battery voltage drop during the cranking cycle may cause the codes to set and place the vehicle into the reduce engine power mode.

Correction:
Test and charge the battery using the steps below.

Important: A low voltage condition may cause at least two of the following DTCs to set.

P060E : Control Module Throttle Position (TP) System Performance

P1516 : Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

P2135 : Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

P2138 : Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

Perform a Diagnostic System Check. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in SI.
Check for DTCs and review the Freeze Frame/Failure Records to determine if sufficient ignition voltage was present when the DTC set.
- If the ignition voltage was low, then check for a possible battery drain. Refer to Battery Electrical Drain/Parasitic Load Test.

- If the ignition voltage was sufficient when the code set, proceed with normal SI diagnosis for the code(s) set.

Test and recharge the battery using Bulletin 02-06-03-009 or latest version on "Battery Charging Tips'.
Clear all DTCs.

When attempting to start, here clicking noise and does not start, tried jumping, no results

It's probably the starter, this is the part that gets the piston's moving with some energy from the battery, the fact that you hear clicking means that the battery has a charge, the fact that the car doesn't start most likely indicates that the starter is busted. When the starter goes bad on you, you usually have to replace the whole unit (low $100's in cost)
