Just bought last week have an oil leak in driveway the oil is light brown in color what could it be..

oil cooler lines, transmission pan, power steering leaking or axle seals. All are pretty common.

IF you open up the access cover for the oil filter you will see the cooler lines. If they are wet with oil you found the first leak.

The trans pan will be wet if the gasket is leaking

the front axle seal will be wet right where the axles go in the front end.

The power steering pump, lines, gear box will be wet if they are leaking.

I have a oil leak, it comes from where my left

hi this sounds like the oil seal that is in the gearbox/transmission is worn, which is oddly called drive shaft transmission oil seal..there is no special name for it, unless you have the correct tools for the job this can be a bit of a long job, mostly disconnecting the ball joints from the hub there are special tools to do that, but once you have the drive shaft out, its a simple case of pulling the old one out and tapping in the new one, make sure you have a bucket or something to catch the oil in when the drive shaft comes out, it makes allot of mess..its probably about a 2 to 3 hour job for an armature to do with the right tools...the seal is probably about 10 to 15 bucks may be cheaper...hope this helps

Leaking fluid from the rearend when parked on an incline, appears to not leak when parked on a flat surface.

Sounds like your rear axle has been overfilled. Should take between 1.5 -2.0 quarts to fill it to the bottom of the fill hole.

These axles should be serviced every 50k miles, and more like 30k if you tow alot.

Pump out the old stuff, and then pump in fresh.

I recommend either Mobil 1 or Royal Purple 75w90 gear oil. This is one of the best things you can to for your Durango as far as preventative maintenance.

While you are at it, check out www.durangoclub.com.

Rear Axle Leak

if it is the seal, you will have to remove the caliper and rotor, remove the differential cover and remove the bolt and pin inside the diff carrier housing. push in the axle and remove the axle clip and pull out the axle use a seal puller or prybar to remove seal reverse the steps to assemble
