I have a 2003 and believe that your power steering reservoir is in the same location as mine. It's barely visible from the top of the engine but if you go to the passengers side of your car and look underneath just about where your tire is lined up with the engine you'll see the A/C compressor and right next to that bolted to a block support you'll see your P/S reservoir. It has a couple of high pressure lines running to and from it going to your Rack.

Fyi, rarely is the pump a failure, don't get me wrong the pump can fail but usually it's the shaft seal or main rack seal leaking or blown.

Good luck!

HOW DO I DRAIN POWER STERING FLUID

Use a turkey baster, or similar suction tool to empty the reservoir of fluid. And, or take off the PS return line into the reservoir, and drain it into a container. Run the engine and turn wheels back and forth slowly to drain the lines. But most people just empty the reservoir and refill with new fluid-the little fluid remaining will just mix with the new fluid.

One moring while making a turn my powerr stering went out 20 seconds and came back on now alight comes on saying power stering

First with the engine off check the power steering fluid and fill to the fill line deepening on weather the engine is hot or cold, the power steering reservoir will have a line for each. Check the serpentine belt as well. Make sure it is not slipping, cracked or otherwise defective. Check the pressure hoses on the pump for leaks.Your rack and pinion unit could be going or have a leak as well. Do you have any red fluid on the ground? That may be an indication or a power steering leak somewhere. Let me know if this helps.

Power stering pump location

Hello,

You need to trace the hose that leads to the power steering fluids reservoir. The reservoir is by the driver side in front of the engine near the ground. see that canister in front of the engine with the screw top, that is it. Trace the hose that leads out from it to the pump. That is the power steering pump.

Take care and good luck.
Hope this helps

Power Steering Fluid Filling & Bleeding
  1. Repair the power steering system.
  2. Turn the engine OFF.
  3. Raise the vehicle so the front wheels are off the ground.
  4. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.
  5. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the FULL/COLD level and leave the cap off.
  6. Have an assistant watch the fluid in the reservoir while you turn the steering wheel fully to the right and fully to the left at least 20 times. NOTE: On systems with long return lines or fluid coolers, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock at least 40 times.
  7. Add fluid as needed to keep the fluid level at the FULL/COLD level.
  8. Install the reservoir cap and start the engine.
  9. Center the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
  10. Run the engine for about 2 minutes.
  11. Turn the steering wheel in both directions and verify correct power steering operation.

I'm trying to find the power stering pumb fluid reserve. Do you know were it is on a 1999 Buick Century?

You will have to shove your hand between the firewall and the front of the engine to reach the reservoir. I suggest checking it when the engine is cool.

Car stering wheel is hard to turn left or right

your power steering pump has a cap on it.you have cold mark and hot mark.when car is cold engine not running.when you remove power steering cap it should be on cold mark.if not add until you get to cold mark on cap stick..dont over fill or you blow the seal.now when engine is hot been running.turn off car check.power steering cap should read full hot.mean level is correct.when you first check power steering fluid and it was real real low.you got a leaking high pressure hose.or power steering pump seal is leaking.if all check out good.your problem could be low tire pressure.worn ball joints.and tie rod ends.rack and pinion steering gear binding.

Where do you add power stering fluid?

The power steering reservoir looks to be right next to a clear fluid reservoir, most likely for coolant but could be windshield washer fluid. Its a small black reservoir. It takes Pentosin chf 11s hydraulic fluid.
