Question about 2012 Mazda 2 Sport 4dr Hatchback 1.5L 4-cyl. 5-speed Manual
When heater is turned on a loud "wirr" sound comes on and a burning type smell happens. The smell has happened before but never the smell. The car only has 35,000 miles on it.
I would suggest you take it to a dealer as it should be covered under a new car warrantee if under 36000 miles

Sounds like you have burned a belt off the pulley for the alternator and water pump. Dont drive the car until you have verified the belt is intact and the water pump is turning. Something had to have caused it if it did, I would suspect water pump, alternator, or air conditioning compressor has siezed if your car is equipped with it.

This is not good. Sounds like the heater fan bearing and/or resistor is burning out. Not familiar with your heater fan location, but most will be removeable from engine compartment.
Just remove it and spin it by hand or hook auxillary power to it to test. Some autoparts stores can test it for you. Stuff a rag in the opening to block fumes if this must be driven for parts run.
