SOURCE: I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix air temp sensor may be bad

the air sensor yur thinking of is usually found out front of the car on the post that supports the hood latch betwween the radiator assemblies and the oute decorative grill. go to your auto parts store like autozone and ask for the ambient air temp sensor. then if they can, ask for a diagram of its location. Its real easy to replace usually one bolt and one wire clip. Autozone has /offers these do it yourself repar guides that can help you .

SOURCE: oxygen sensors on a 2007 pontiac grand prix?

This is the tech info on how to test the O2 sensor:

Many intermittent open or shorted circuits come and go with harness and connector movement caused by vibration, engine torque, bumps and rough pavement, etc.

  1. Test the wiring harness and connectors by performing the following:
    • Move the related connectors and wiring while monitoring the appropriate scan tool data.
    • Move the related connectors and wiring with the component commanded ON and OFF, with the scan tool. Observe the components operation.
    • With the engine running, move the related connectors and wiring while monitoring engine operation
    • If harness or connector movement affects the data displayed, the component and system operation, or the engine operation, inspect and repair the harness or connections as necessary
  2. Test the electrical connections and/or wiring by performing the following:
    • Inspect for incorrect mating of the connector halves, or terminals not fully seated in the connector body, backed-out.
    • Inspect for improperly formed or damaged terminals. Test for incorrect terminal tension.
    • Inspect for poor terminal to wire connections including terminals crimped over insulation. This requires removing the terminal from the connector body.
    • Inspect for corrosion or water intrusion. Pierced or damaged insulation can allow moisture to enter the wiring. The conductor can corrode inside the insulation with little visible evidence. Look for swollen and stiff sections of wire in the suspect circuits.
    • Inspect for wires that are broken inside the insulation
  3. Here is info on the sensor:
Heated Oxygen Sensor The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) sensors are located on the exhaust manifold and on the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter

Identifying HO2S2 sensor connector–3.1L, 3.4L, 3.5L, 3.8L, 3.9L and 5.3L engines

Top oxygen senser is out, can it make the care surge like the transmission is slipping? Where is it locted?

Yes, a bad O2 sensor will sometimes cause the car's computer to not have the proper fuel mixture. Check the exhaust manifold for the sensor. It should be close to the engine.

How do I change the oxygen sensors in 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix(GT)?

I assume you asked, because you haven't looked for them, and never removed one before.
They are always in the exhaust pipe before the converter or most are in the converter.
A 22mm or 7/8" wrench may be what you need
Usually, you use a special O2 Sensor Socket, there are different ones.

Don't replace without testing first
OBD2 Codes--for O2 Sensors --doesn't mean it is bad,could be a vacuum leak.

Do the 2002 pntiac grand am have two oxygen sensers? car has no power. though it was transmission? was told that in could be the catyliatic converter.

bad O2 sensor(s) won't cause significant loss of power. restriction with gas flow (filter, pump) or exhaust (catalytic converter) most definitely can.
