Trying to charge battery for first time. It says connect two red connectors. Do you charge it first then connect the connector afterwards?

1. I assume this is a car battery so the first thing you do is to disconnect the vehicle cables from the battery terminals. The negative first and then the positive. The positive terminal is marked with a plus sign ...+ ... When refitting the cables to the
battery after it is charged you fit the positive cable to the positive battery terminal(+) first and fit the negative(-) last.

2. Now that the battery is unconnected from the vehicle you can fit the charging cables to the battery terminals. The charger you have should have 2 cables leading from it , a positive with a red plastic insulation on the clip and a negative cable probably with black insulation on the clip. The instructions with the charger will tell you in which order the cables are to be attached to the battery and the order you remove them. Each of the 2 cables has to be clipped onto the correct battery terminal. The positive cable(+) from the charger goes to the positive battery terminal (+)and the negative cable(-) from the charger goes to the negative battery terminal(-).

3. Once the cables from the charger are properly connected to the battery, you can plug in the charger and turn on the power.

4. Batteries generate explosive gasses when being charged and it only takes one small spark to ignite them. Don't reconnect the battery after charging for a half hour or so and make sure the area where you are charging is well ventilated.

What size battery

take the dead battery to a battery shop and they will have the correct battery for you. The battery size is on your battery and be careful to state where the terminals are on the battery and which terminal is the positive or the cables may not fit.

How do I give my car a boost my battery is dead on my 2009 cts where do I charge my battery at

To jump start a car there is a set procedure that has to be followed to prevent ECM damage from power surge. Connect the positive lead form the jumping battery directly to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Next connect the negative lead from the jumping battery to the engine (Any place that is metal--head stud--lifting bracket-etc) to charge the battery remove the terminals and connect the charger as directed. However I would suggest that you have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell or jumping will achieve nothing

Jumped the battery and immediately the lights came on. However the car would still not start. The car was VERY low on gas so we added at least 2 gallons of gas to it. Car still wont start. It clicks when...

Load test the battery if possible, but more than likely the battery has become unable to hold a good enough charge to start the vehicle. I would also clean the pos. and neg. terminals of all corrosion and make sure they are tight.

Startproblem with my citroen c4

could be several things, I would check battery terminal connections make sure they are tight and clean. how old is battery? could need replaced. if jump starting works I would suspect battery, once running is alternator charging? turn head lights on before trying to start, are they bright? leave them on and watch them while someone trys to start car, do they dim or stay bright? if the dim quckly with click that your hearing you may need a starter, if they stay bright, most likey a battery or bad terminal connections.

Proper positive and negative disconnect sequence and precautions for electrical system when charging battery

we usually recommend removing the negative terminal first, but this is only to reduce that chance of shorting your wrench when disconnecting the positive side. You do not have to disconnect the battery to charge it. Just make sure you connect the red charging cable to the positive battery terminal.

Jumper cables have two colored cables. The red one goes from your vehicle positive battery terminal (+) to the other cars positive terminal (+)

The black goes from your negative terminal(-) to the other cars negative terminal (-)
Your car should start within 5 to 10 minutes if you have good connections.
Get your charging system checked to see if your battery is bad, or your car charging system is not working.
