SOURCE: Front struts replacement

Jack up and secure front end of your vehicle,Take off two front wheels. Loosen to bolt on the bottom of struts (Its a bolt and nut). Remove clip that holds brake hose on to strut and remove hose. DO NOT OPEN BRAKE LINE OR DISCONNECT FROM CALIPER. Remove bolts and remove bottom of strut from knuckle/Hub assembly. Then loosen nuts on strut tower( on top of fender inside hood) (3) nuts, mark exact locations of each nut on strut mount area on upper fender weld. Make sure to hold strut on the bottom so it doesn't drop down on caliper and knuckle or on you possibly.YOU WILL NEED A SPRING COMPRESSOR to compress spring so you can take struts off. MAKE SURE THAT SPRING IN COMPRESSED/SQUEEZED WITH A STRUT COMPRESSOR. Then loose center nut on strut tower(may be covered with a circular rubber cover) If nut spin around with out getting loose use vise grips to hold strut rod ONLY TO REMOVE STRUT NOT TO INSTALL. if you use vise grips to install it will damage strut. When nut is off, remove strut and reinstall new one transfer all rubber boots and cushions from old strut. Good Luck thanks for using FIX-YA.com contact me if you need more help.

How do you know when your struts need to be replaced on a nissan altima

If the strut is leaking, it needs to be replaced. It is also recommended to replace them in pairs.

Struts or shocks on back; 2002 Altima 3.5 SE.

If you have front wheel drive which is most likely, You will have struts. They are harder to change than shocks because will need a strut spring compressor to relieve the tension on them.

Do I need to align the tires after installing new struts on both front and rear?

Yes. Even if you're sure you got everything back in the same place, a small amount of camber change at the front struts can cause a large toe change and wear out your tires. To protect your tires and really just as maintenance, it's a must to check the alignment after doing the struts.

Do I need to remove struts first to replace lower ball joints on a 95 Nissan Altima?

Would help to unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle to help getting the knuckle off the ball joint.

Do the struts need replacing after 80,000 miles. Our tire service called and said they need replacing on my '04 Altima

the strut only need replacing if there is alot of bounce in the car, or if there leaking, or the main reason is there broken. that would be the only reasons to replace struts

Replaced front shocks in front of nissam altima 2003. still makes rattling noise on front right side. what could it be

It is probably the strut bearing. this is a metal bearing that the strut sticks through at the strut tower.

Coil spring

If your car has over 75K miles on and the struts are original, I'd have the struts replaced. As for the coil spring, you can probably find a repair manual at your local library. You can get loaner spring and strut compressor tools at most auto parts stores (loaners are free, just have to leave a deposit for the price of the tool).

Repair cost will vary from place to place, but I'd say coil and strut replacement is about 4-5 hours labor. I'd guess a $300-$450 for parts and labor (coil - $100, pair struts - $140)

95 altima have a thumping sound in the back now athumping sound in the front when l turn a corner or hit a pot hole

This sounds like a typical strut problem. Sounds like you may need struts and possibly the strut mounts that are on top of the struts where they bolt to the vehicle. Hope this helps.

Coil spring

may need alignment after new coil spring (and/or strut assembly)...recommend that you allow a shop to do this...if you are skilled mechanic, you can do it by scribing marks before srut removal and matching marks after strut re-installed.
