SOURCE: torque converter solenoid stuck off DTC

There is a solenoid switch that locks up your torque converter to get a 1:1 input for your transmission. This solenoid (or less likely its circuit) does not operate. You probably don't feel the difference in driveability but this definitely affects fuel mileage of the car... The solenoid for your particular application is available for about 60$ Canadian at NAPA auto parts here in Canada. Not too sure about USD$ and labour costs...

SOURCE: transmission problem

Its located inside the side pan. 4 bolts that need to be retorqued and a screen filter, replace it too.

Check fluid level too, if system gets a little low it wont move trans.

SOURCE: solenoid switch on transmission

there are many shift solenoids, which one are u refering to? what is the trouble code? remember the code only indicates a problem in the circuit, not that the solenoid is for sure defective, iyt can be wiring or the powertrain control module. all are inside the transmission, u must drain the fluid and remiove the pan to service these parts.

2005 chev. Aveo will not shift into overdrive. What could it be?

Due to the age of the vehicle, It is due for a Transmission filter and fluid change. It should have been done at 80,000 miles. Perform an OBDII scan of the stored fault history and look for a speed sensor or torque converter lock-up solenoid fault. The lock-up solenoid can be accessed while the trans pan is off for the filter service

I HAVE A 2001 TRIUTE.IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE BUT I COULD MANUALLY SHIFT AND IT WOULD WORK.ONCE IN DRIVE NO PROBLEM UNTILL I STOPPED.NOW MY OD LIGHT FLASHING

The first thing to do is change the transmission filter and fluid. This service should be done every 80,000 miles. If the OD light continues to flash after the filter service is done, then perform an OBDII scan of the stored fault history. Look for a transmission speed sensor fault. A bad speed sensor will result in no torque converter lock-up and no overdrive function. Also look for a bad torque converter lock-up solenoid fault. This solenoid can be replaced when accessing the trans filter (while the trans pan is off)

possible oil level problem or oil condition problem
run the fault codes first to check for sensor. servo. solenoid or TCM problems .
consider having the transmission serviced with an oil change and filter clean by an accredited transmission specialist shop

What causes aChevrolet z71 to not shift into overdrive and take off in 2nd gear after I change my transmission out 5.3 liter motor with a 4l60e transmission 4-wheel Drive

If you are lucky, bad shift solenoid (common failed part) may cause it to start in second. Other problem of no overdrive (ie: no torque converter lockup) could be as simple as misadjusted brake pedal switch or TCC solenoid. Where did you get this apparently bad transmission?

P0740 honda odyssey

P0740 Honda - Transmission Lock-Up Control System Fault Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection

Tech notes
On some Honda vehicles the P0740 code may be set by an overheating torque converter problem which is caused by an insufficient flow to the torque converter release circuit.

P0740 Honda Description
The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.

When coming to a stop the motor shuts down. to take off again you have to put it in neutral to restart. it then takes 2 or more tries to keep it going once you shift to drive.

SOUND LIKE FAULTY TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID.WHAT HAPPENING WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP.WHEN YOUR FOOT PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CLUTCH SOLENOID SUPPOSE TO UNLOCK TORQUE CONVERTER TO KEEP FROM STALLING THE ENGINE IF NOT THATS WHAT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL OUT.SO HAVE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CHECK OUT AND HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SCANNED FOR A TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID FAULT.
