i had the same problem it turned out the battery just needed replacing if its not that then the next thing to check is your battery cables and see if there is alot of corrosion on them that can also factor in. the last thing id suggest checking is your battery terminals. hope this helps

Disconnect battery ground for 30 seconds & reconnect. Light should be out unless you have deeper diagnostic problem. Charging system good Battery good. This action should reset trouble light. Good luck!

That battery is big enough. I would look at the starter. try hitting the starter with a hammer,pipe or steel rod. Hit the starter not the solenoid. Then try starting it. if it starts turning better or starts the engine, replace the starter. If that doesn't work let me know and we can go from there.

Why will the truck not start when the temp gets 20 degrees but it will when I jumped what do I need to do

1. If you can jump start the truck to get it started but not start it with the current battery then you battery is most likely bad and needs to be replaced. (See 2 also).

The problem is the battery is most likely not producing the CCA (cold cranking amps) and CA (cranking amps) that it is supposed to and did when new .( These CCA/CA ratings are listed on the battery label.) In that event you will never be able to start the vehicle.

A basic voltmeter and basic load tester won't tell you if the battery is failing to produce the required CA / CCA to get the vehicle started. Both can indicate your battery is quite passable and OK until a CA/CCA tester is applied and will show the CA/CCA the battery is actually producing which in a failing battery will be well below spec.

2. You should also disconnect the battery cables and clean the battery terminals and cable clamps. If dirty you can get very poor current flow from the existing battery. As a first step check these connections and clean them and eliminate dirty terminals as the cause of your power issue before replacing the battery as suggested.

When i try to start , it will only crank for a second and then stop, battery is fine . its very cold today, could it be the temperature ?

Cold can definitely be the culprit. When you say the battery is "good", what are you basing that on ? And most people in the northern climates know that they need a really high cranking amp battery to be able to perform well on cold mornings. If you have a "cheap" battery, or got your car from a southern area, chances are that your battery has low cranking amps, and won't start your car in extreme cold (or extreme heat). See how many "cold cranking amps" or CCA your battery is rated at. It should be displayed on the top of the battery. If its low (300-500) that's probably your problem. If it's high, (800 & up) and your battery is actually reading 12 volts, your problem is likely somewhere else. Also the larger motor you have, the more CCA you need. Example, a small 4 cylinder escort may get by fine with a 500 CCA battery in cold weather, but a big V8 in a large truck may not turn over with a 500 CCA battery in below zero weather. Peugeot 807 cold starting problem

I had a problem with my car not wanting to start in the cold. It was then I learned about CCA (cold cranking amps). I lived out west and had never heard of cca. You said your amperage is correct so this is prob not your solution. I purchased a battery with high CCA and my car starts every time now. Last week it was below zero and it dragged a bit when I first tried to start it but then started. The higher your CCA the better. Cost a little bit more but so worth it.

I just need to know how many cca the 2000 mirage requires for the battery.

where ever you buy your battery from,they can tell you what the cold cranking amps should be in your car,
the higher the number you pick means the more cracking time you will have for cold morning starts before the battery goes dead.

Hello;
Boy the cold weather has wreaked havoc on batteries. Get a new battery. 525 cca seems a bit small, I would put in a higher cca battery just for peace of mind. After you install it, make sure the charging system is working properly.Hope this helps.
Thanks;

Battery again

I don't know the exact size of the OEM battery's amp rating, but that seems low compared to most batteries. At the minimum, you want probably 600 CCA (it's a decent-sized car with a lot of electronics in it), so I wouldn't buy below that rating, especially if you live where it gets cold in the winter (that's where you really need the higher CCA ratings).

Cold cranking amps - 05 Ford Five Hundred

You can buy a battery with as many cca as you like as long as the battery fits your battery box. The cca is how long you can crank motor befor you run out of power If you can get a 700-750 cca battery you will be fine. But you could do with a 450-500cca battery if you want. But I wouldn't go less than that especially if your running the v8
