Just a thought: Sound crazy and I do not understand but about 15 years ago my wife speed o meter was working crazy. She called me at work and said she was at a red light and the car said she was doing over 30 MPH.. I told her to take back to dealer. They changed the alternator and it never happened again. May not help but I thought of it.

Abs and brake light are on with check engine light on the speed ometer some times works and today stopped @ stop sign and car shut off, but restarted with no problem, any suggestions ?

You need to drive this car over to someone like AUTOZONE or AMERICAN AUTO PARTS and have one of the clerks behind the counter to come out with their service diagnostic box and hook into your system computer to read the service codes to tell you what is wrong. Continuing to drive with the warning lights on and telling you there is a MAJOR problem is just plain foolish on your part. Your brakes fail and you run over someone is going to be a major life changing event for you! Get the car to a place and they will read the computer codes at AutoZone and other places for FREE. Do it ASAP.

In a 2004 dodge intrepid my speed ometer stop working my check engine light went on and is reading transmission solenoid problems and now won't start?

I'd try changing the speed sensor most likely mounted on the outside of the transaxle which is wired to your motor as a fail safe causing it not to start so replace the speed sensor which also could throw a transaxle code then disconnect your battery for 30 min to reset your engine light then reconnect battery and try starting

Why doesn't the speed ometer work on a nissan sentra 1996?

Could be the speed sensor in the transaxle.

My speed ometer stays stuck then jumps around is it a sensor or electrical

1) Remove the rear wheel speed sensor from the axle housing.
2) Connect a Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM) across the two sensor terminals and record the reading.
3) The reading should be between 0.8 and 1.4 k Ohms. If not, replace the sensor.
thanks mate!!!!!!!!

Fuses blown do not have manual to help locate fuses

The fuse panel should be below the steering wheel to the left. A blown fuse would explain why the electronic speedometer isn't working, but a blown fuse wouldn't explain the OD light. If the speedometer starts to work after replacing the fuse, but reads erratically, you might want to check the vehicle speed sensor.
