Depending on the year of the 900, they all have a sensor on the end of the cylinder head(opposite end to drive belt) and some also have a sensor between no 2 and 3 cylinders on the inlet manifold.

Cold Starting

You have a cold start injector that is controled by coolant temp and more than likely the sensor, which is located center of intake, between #2 and 3 looks a bit like a reg. temp. sensor and will have either blue or black electrical harness connected to it. This sensor 'tells' the cold start sensor, a fifth injector for cold starting, when coolant is below a certain temp and gives extra gas. Try to find one at a junkyard, otherwise, about $80 new. Better yet, buy a Bentley manual and there's diagnostics using a multimeter on diagnosing specifically. I have an 88 but it is an N/A, not a turbo and is an 8v...if your's is a 16 valve, look for sensor in same spot but under fuel rail/injector area.

Fan will not come on

If your car is the 1994 vert, this does not apply since that is a classic 900. The 1994 sedan is the NG 900 and this applies to that car. (1994 was the first year for the NG 900 model, but 1995 was the first year for the NG 900 in vert form). The high and low radiator fan speed relays are located in the main underhood relay box on the driver's side near the firewall, at positions "D" & "I" therein. The relay positions are marked on the underside of the relay box lid. If your fan refuses to come on at all, (neither low, nor high speed operation) you may have both relays failed, or a break in the circuit to the fan, or a failed coolant temp sensor (although this usually throws a code), since jumping to the fan from the battery succeeds in making the fan work. If you have a CEL light showing when driving, you can confirm a bad coolant temp sensor by turning the key to on, but not starting the car. The CEL will light up briefly then go out. It will then light up one long time to signal that it is about to flash the code to you. Then it will issue a burst of short duration flashes (.4 seconds long). If you get a string of 4 rapid fire .4 sec flashes, this indicates a failed coolant temp sensor.

Your problem with the APC system. Any perceived fault and you only get base boost. The most likely fault is the boost pressure sensor located under the dash on the left-hand side. when it is bad you often hear the APC solenoid valve clicking at idle.
