SOURCE: engine stalling on a 2002 chevy tahoe z71

Still sounds like a fuel problem. Try a full tank of supreme gas, plus put a can of SEAFOAM into the tank to help clean you injectors. See if this will help clear up your problem. Did you change the plugwires????

SOURCE: stalling and hesitation, all 4 cylinders misfiring, once warmed car seems to run ok

There are various questions to ask in order to help you.
When does it stall?

If it stalls when the AC of the car turns on, then this handy diagnostic article will help solve your problem:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_AC_Turned_On.htm

Likely applicable to your situation--since you say the car runs fine when it is "warmed up"--when the car stalls because the engine is NOT warmed up and is otherwise cold, this handy diagnostic article will help solve your problem:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_Cold.htm

And as to backfiring when you initially run your car, this handy article really helps in identifying the common causes of such a problem:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Backfires.htm

This should help.
Good luck!

SOURCE: 2004 Hyundai Terracan, 2.5 turbo diesel, manual.

right renew the glow plug timer/relay if you put a meter on the glow plugs when cold and turn ign on (with help) it should supply power for a about 20 secs ,time depends on outside air temperature ,if all else fails then do a colin --- use a push button switch, wired to a relay so glow plugs can be operated by pushing the switch which you will mount on the dash ,cant beat a manual overide system

Why does 1998 jeep Cherokee not run unless gas tank is at least half full?

2.5L or 4.0L? engine.
ever do a full service on this car , with a fuel filter.
or wrong gas cap, does car run ok cap off? or loose?
ignore cap off DTC errors. EVAP errors when done, ok?
start with basics.
then check fuel pressure, with a 1/4 tank, is it spec pressure with that brand new filter? yes/no.

the filter is part of the top of pump at top of the FP reg. in tank.
that be how its done. no need to guess. at all.
in this case, the pressure test is after, the cap checks.
the wrong cap will have a missing, cap vacuum breaker this cause
the pump to fail (it cant suck in a hard vacuum at all, get a new cap)

FSM spec, a the fuel rail for pump pressure,
Start the vehicle and note the pressure reading at idle which should be 31 psi (214 kPa).

if the car stalls with 31 PSI pressures , its NOT THE PUMP.
easy huh? just one tool and bam ,hard cold diagnostic facts.
evidence.
the tool can be had for $20

What can i do

Dirty fuel injectors are the most common cause of hard starting of a cold engine. As a first step, obtain a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner and add it to your gas tank. I've found this brand works better than any other. If this clears up your problem, it tells me that you need to start buying or gasoline at a different station and/or you need to change your engine oil more often. One other thing you can do, is check your maintenance records to see if you have exceeded the mileage recommended in your owners manual for having a tune up. Nissan recommends changing the engine air filter every 30,000 miles, & the spark plugs every 105,000 miles. Also check your fuel pressure. You may have a clogged fuel filter or a fuel pump going bad.

check your grounds. I find many easy fixes by cleaning all the grounds around the engine bay. I would also check the ground at the fuel pump connector that wiring is prone to corrosion and breakage

Engine stalls when placed under a load

Assuming your Montero does not require a simple tune-up, plugs, cap rotor, wires...) I'd check your fuel pressure, it may be as simple as a plugged fuel filter. If it is fuel related the fuel pump may be failing, pressure regulator may be shot or poor injectors (failing) Another check is your MAF, Mass Air Flow switch. This is located right at the air filter (you unplug it to access the filter) On that SUV you can check computer codes by use of a simple anolog multi meter. Please let me know if this helps or if you need further help.

Thanks,
Tom

Started ran for awhile then died an wont start

Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter, a dirty filter can cause your engine from starting. At worst, your fuel pump has failed and will need to be replaced. Before replacing the fuel pump, inspect all the fuses and wire leads from the fuel pump harness. Note: that the ground wire is separately grounded at the frame, so inspect that for any damage due to corrosion.

You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors. I think each injector is on a seperate driver on that one. Check for pulse to all of them.

You may be weak on fuel pressure, even a couple of lbs low on a cold start will cause a no start. Double check cold start cranking fuel pressure. If under 63-62 lbs you have problems. One test is to give it a squirt of carb cleaner not starting fluid. If it starts then you have a fuel pressure problem.
Run the full fuel pressure test, here is the guide lines on testing.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure. Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
* Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure. If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
* Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
* Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more. and if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.

The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump. If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.

BMW 320TDI HARD TO START WHEN WARM

Probable Spark plugs have blown. I would do a good tune up and replace your fuel filter, plugs and wires, oil and oil filter, air filter. Your system builds enough fuel pressure when it's cold becuase there is technically less are in your combustion chamber when it's cold so it can build more fuel pressure to start. When it's warm there's less room to build pressure to start your motor. So do a good tune up for now and see if that works. Hope you the best!

1999 Tahoe 5.0 Very hard starting, sometimes requires starting fluid to get started. once started runs fine. Has had a full tune-up, new fuel filter. Fuel pressure has been checked and is ok. 2 different...

The most common cause of this condition is the check valve in the fuel pump failing, to check this hook up a fuel test guage to the fuel rail test port, run the engine for a moment and shut it down, after shout down the pressure should stay within 5 PSI of the pressure at shut down after sitting overnight, if it doesn't then the fuel pump must be replaced, the reason is the fuel drains back to the tank if the valve is defective, so you get air and no real pressure on cold start, A check of pressure on a hot running engine will not show this fault, also make sure you are usine the correct Octane of fuel, Prem fuel in a regular fuel engine will cause cold start and stalling issues in cold weather.
