Question about 2007 Pontiac Torrent FWD

Open Question

2007 Pontiac Torrent won't start

I moved my car 20 ft, and stopped it. 5 minutes later, I attempted to start it, and it did not even try to turn over (just clicked). The driver information center indicated the battery was OK. Put car in neutral to push it out of driveway, and then pushed it back in. Now, the battery is nearly dead, and I cannot shift it out of park, so I cannot push it. I tried jumping the car, but it will not jump. Any ideas?

SOURCE: 2002 Pontiac Montana. Got home turned van off.

by the sounds of it the altanator is putting out enough voltage to keep the car running I my self don't think that it's the alt but the battery, if you don't know the age than it's not a bad idea to replace the battery. if the problem is still there than I would test the alt, should be putting out 14.6 volt at all times. but replace the battery first.

Usually Park will not disengage without the brakes dreppressed in these newer cars.Take the batterey out. If you can trickle charge the batterey, or even give it some juice by leaving it connected to another running car by jumpers. You can check the volts with the right meter. You can get one just for checking car battereys. I got one at Harbor Freight for $5, and it lets you know if the alternator is bad too.
If you have a floor jack with wheels...you can lift half the car just off the wheels on give it a push out of the garage. There are also wheel caddys.

SOURCE: 2006 Pontiac Torrent, won't start, changed

I would check the cables for corrosion build up,clean the cable ends clean, and shiny, make sure the alternator is charging correctly, checked at the battery, with headlights on,and ac on high blower motor, the voltage should read 13.65 to 14.25 volts,no more,no less, then check the see if there is a draw, pulling the battery down, with the key off,if this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

Usually if you can smell fuel inside the cabin the vapors are coming in thru the vent system from the engine compartment.
Could be a fuel leak or a problem with the vapor canister.

I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE, and the battery may be bad. Though I wouldn't be asking if I thought there was the possibility that the starter is the culprit. what happens is it...

It sounds like it's just a bad battery. If it was the starter, it wouldn't even turn over like you're describing. If a starter goes bad, you typically just a hear a click and it won't even attempt to turn the engine over.

Good Luck!

I need to program a new fob. am reusing the old key! can you help?

  1. Turn the ignition to ON, then wait 10 minutes for the next step in the programming sequence.
  2. After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp once. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position within 5 minutes after the horn has sounded, then to the ON position within 5 seconds after switching it OFF.
  3. Leave the key to the ON position for 10 minutes . After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp twice. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position within 5 minutes after the horn has sounded, then to the ON position within 5 seconds after switching it OFF.
  4. Leave the key to the ON position for 10 minutes . After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp 3 times.
  5. Verify that the security indicator in the instrument cluster has stopped flashing and attempt to start the vehicle.
  6. Turn the ignition to OFF and remove the key from the ignition switch.
  7. Move approximately 3 meters (10 ft) away from the vehicle and test the transmitter functions to validate that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.

I jumped started my 2007 Torrent and now the radio wont come on, nor the sound for turn signals.

Not a solution, but our torrent is doing the same thing. Periodically things like the radio, blinkers, dash lights, etc won't work. After parking the car for a while and trying again they seem to work again. This continues for about 2 weeks then the car decides not to start. After recharging the battery; a couple of days later the cycle continues again.
We thought it might be a short in the DVD player as it happened when we left the disc in, but the dealership has been unable to duplicate the issue.
Everything from updating the software on the electric seats has been done without success.

Turn the key to the run position, Within 5 seconds press and release the gas pedal three times. The change engine oil light will flash while the system is resetting. Turn off the ignition. If the light or message comes back on and stays on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

get a n accredited battery shop out to load test and replace the battery
they use a memory minder to keep all security codes in tact while the battery is being replaced
then have the alternator/ charge circuit tested at an accredited auto electrician
