I have a Mercedes estate and the cable from the handbrake foot peddle has broken and needs replacing and where the cable separates into two I cannot work out how it comes apart

crawl under the front of your car and by sight or feel find the broken cable and pull on it to open your hood.also it the cable is too short feel if you can find the lever from under the car to release to hood.

V40 cable ajuster is situated under the rear part of center console. Remove rear tray, undo the two posi screws, remove the cup holder rubber base cover to expose one more posi screw-undo.
Now you can lift the section backond off the handbrake lever.
Look under the flexi plastic cover and find a gold nut which has a sprung retainer.
You can now effect adjustment via this nut book suggests six to seven notches from off to on for ideal adjustment.
