Jetta 4: Car engine stops running while driving

I have trouble to keep the engine running while driving. This would only happen periodically, especially when I take a close corner, after which the engine just switches off. Normally the car would just start again when I turn the key in the ignition and I would continue driving. Occasionally, the car would not be able to idle, once I remove my foot from the gas pedal. I have had the wiring checked and replaced under the battery, and I also had to fix the mechanism to open the driver's window (electrical). Also, I can't recall having the fuel filter changed. Is this an electric problem, or is it rather that the filter and spark plugs need replacing?

The first thing you need to do here is have the engine control module scanned for fault codes, this is key to the diagnosis of the problem.

SOURCE: 3.1 engine 96 misfires trough driving speeds and idle

i had a 94 that ran into problems like that with very rough idles and misses. i get about five different codes from injectors to oxygen sensor. turned out my negative wire from the battery was so corroded inside the insulation it was causing all sorts of problems. bought new cable and ends from canadian tire $40.00 and installed (had to clean the connection to the block with sand paper) but fixed all my problems after that.

cheers

I have a 2005 jetta gls. There is a small leak in the coolant resevoir so I added a small amount of distilled water since I didn't have coolant. when the car is idle the engine rpms slowly pick up

Yes safe to drive. Just keep an eye on the coolant level.. I didnt have the problem with the RPMs going up, but i didnt have a crack in my reservoir. I replace it once and after 4 months it happened again. Had to get another one. Not sure why it does this. But i ran it for 3 or so months with just adding coolant when needed. It started to over heat once so i had to stop (ran low on coolant). So just keep an eye on it.

Why does oil pressure warning light go on jetta 4 tdi,1.9

Get it in for diagnostics, the possibilities are endless, but do not drive the car!
A) Check the oil levels, and if there are any leaks
B) Check oil pressure sensor

When last was an oil change service done?

Volkswagen 2006 Jetta, shaking while driving and accelerating.

Retrieve the trouble codes and fix any problems. if you dont have acces to scanner there are places out there that will scan it for free. Know, however, that just scanning it it's not a diagnosis. Fix the leaks, change the oil and add propper amount and type of oil. The shaking of the engine could be due to misfires causing the vehicle to run rough but in order to find out you need to retrieve the trouble codes. Best bet is to take it to a shop and have it diagnosed.

Son let his car run out of gas, and when he filled it this code appeared with rough idle and stalling code 2002

I had a something similar to this happen to a girlfriend of mine. She has a 98 escort and it ran out of gas and the service engine soon light came on after she filled it up. If this is what your talking about check your owners manual. Most of the time if there is really nothing wrong with car you can drive it around ( Generally 20 min in town and 10 on the hwy with 4 idle periods (4 times of the engine being at idle) - do not cut engine off) and the light will go off. The rough idle code most likely happened when the engine ran roughly because. it was running out of gas.

I drive jetta 4 1.6 , while driving car lock itself steering wheel lock and engine stop running in the middle of freeway or every time after 1km then must stop car start engine again

As only the ignition key can lock the steering wheel and stop the motor at the same time I would suggest you replace the ignition lock. This is dangerous. Get it checked out.

It may be overfilled. Do you keep adding coolant when it blows it out? The reservoir has a line to which the coolant should be filled. If overfilled it will blow out when hot. Other reasons may be that the fan that cools the radiator may not be cycling on and off to keep it cool. Also check the small belt on the right front side of the engine that is under a plastic cover that runs the water pump. It sometimes breaks and the water pump stops turning.

Engine misses at idle and after shifting (Jetta 97)

Did you by chance check the resistance of your plug wires? They have a tendency of breaking down over a period of time and need replaced. The spark plugs would have told you what was wrong with the engine many times.

is the check engine lite on when it is running? Have a garage that has vag com drive the car with it hooked up and record the data stream. It can show you what happens that makes the car die.

Fuel

First thing to check would be dirty fuel injectors but it really sounds like a faulty Electronic Throttle Control. Trouble with a bad ETC is it won't always fail, leading you to think the problem is elsewhere. A bad ETC will make an engine stall and prevent it from idling.
