Question about 2000 Cadillac Escalade

1 Answer

Service engine light

My service engine light is on. The vehicle runs great but has a hard start. Its -8 right now where im at, and when the escalade sits for more then 5 hours, it starts rough. It always starts on the first try regardless, but the engine sounds like its difficult and it turns over slow. 5.7 liter. When its running, it runs great, just a difficult turnover. Could anything be tied to the Service Engine soon light and the hard starts together? If not, what else could it be? Im going to try to have the code scanned tomorrow to see what it is.

Repost with codes and you will recieve the help you want... the systems monitered by the light are all directly related to a running engine. turning over slowly could be battery or starter (cold weather does affect battery charges).

SOURCE: Service Engine Soon Light is on Car has 120,000 miles

Disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes, then re-connect it. If that does not work, take it to the dealer. You may not have a problem other than the computer says it is time to turn it on. You may have noticed the same problem about 50-60K miles ago.

My escalade flashed a warning light to reduce the engine power it then shut down and wouldnt start

Your Escalade has put itself into "limp home mode", it is protecting you from destroying the engine or transmission. I would take it to autozone or Pepboys let them scan it for a stored code....it could be several different things.

2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV cut off while I was driving. Charged the battery and it turns over, but won't start. After sitting for a few days battery is dead again. Disconnected wire to battery for sub...

doesnt sound like the battery is the issue(most parts store can test the battery in house to see if its shot). regardless if it dies while sitting there is a bad ground or drain on the system, youll need to chase it down with a voltmeter to locate the problem there. once thats done you need to determine which element of internal combustion youve lost. fuel, spark, air or compression. most likely its fuel or spark, ive never seen all cylinders loose compression at once unless its a catastrophic failure(engine blows up) and a loss in one cylinder is generally not enough to render the engine inoperable. GMC fuel injection in particular vortec models are extremely finicky about fuel pressure in most case 60lbs is required however i would check a haynes or chilton service manual for the exact number if i were you. you can check fuel pressure by hooking a test gauge to the service port (located inline usually near intake manifold) also you can check to see if the pump or relay has gone faulty by simply turning on the key(dont attempt to start) and having a helper listen to hear the fuel pump turning on (itll make a humming noise for a fuw seconds to build up pressure before starting) if the fuel pump is working, and putting out the correct amount of pressure(remember vortecs are finicky just because its working doesnt mean its getting adequate pressure) the next item to check would be spark. im assuming your vehicle runs off of a series of coil packs. if so you can generally have these tested at most parts stores. if you cant finda vendor to test them simply remove a spark plug, leave it hooked to the wire, grasp it with some insulated pliers and ground it out while the engine is being turned over by a helper. you should be able to visually see a spark being emmitted from the plug at this point. if you have fuel and spark but it still wont start then the issue is most likely in a sensor or ignition module. in this case a check engine light should be on indicating a trouble code is store in the ECM. this can be checked by hooking an obd2 scan tool to the service port which is usually located under the dash on the drivers side of the vehicle. anyways this should get you going in the right direction. ill moniter this post for any feedback. hope this helps and good luck!

Need to change coils on 98 expedition cylinders 3 and 8 but do not know which are 3 and 8

#1,2,3,4 are on the passenger side or right side when sitting in the vehicle, starting from the front of the engine towards the firewall---#5,6,7,8 are the left side starting from front of the engine toward the firewall. Both sides are in order so the front right side(as you are sitting in the vehicle) the #3 coil is the 3rd one back, and #8 is the left side(as you are sitting in the vehicle)last one before the firewall

My 2002 LS is hard to start after it sit awhile I change the fuel filter and the spark plugs and the coils on each plug but it still hard to start could it be my fuel pump is losing pressure when it sit...

it is very possible and i can tell you a way to help you see if that is the issue. after your car has sit a while (as long as it usually takes before it acts up) jump in the vehicle and turn the key to the postion just before the vehicle begins to turn over when all the dash lights come on. when the key is put in this position the fuel pump runs for a few seconds and then stops until vehicle is cranked, allow the pump to run for 5 seconds then turn the key back off. then return the key to the "run" postion i mentioned before and wait a few seconds then try to start it. if it fires right up you have allowed the vehicle to build fuel pressure before you started it, indicating you have a fuel pressure issue and you are most likely looking at a weak fuel pump.
