Do the brake lights come on when applying the brakes?
If so then the remote start could be causing the issues or the interlock may have gone bad

SOURCE: no dash or tail lights. they share a common fuse.

My recollection from owning a Lincoln Continental is you need to change a switch in the steering column most of those wiring are tied into it.

Having two problems, wont start in park, have to put into neutral to start, also no brake lights, fuses are fine. Help please. 2001 ford windstar

Look at the top of your Brake pedal for a switch. It needs to send a signal for the brake lights and the release of the gearshift/starter solenoid lockout.

Drivers feet often move or break this switch and a good indication the problem is there is having no brake lights.

It is a bit odd that you can move the gearshift at all without the signal from the brake switch. The idea of having these extra parts is to prevent the van from starting without your foot on the brake or getting out of Park without your foot on the brake.

So you may have to fix more than just the brake switch. There may be a misalignment or broken part on the shifter lockout.

Wont shift from park

Check to see if brake lights work. The safety system uses a switch on the top of the brake pedal lever to prevent shifting out of Park without putting your foot on the brake.

If you lose the signal from this switch, it will not come out of Drive. Often the drivers' foot hits and moves or breaks this switch. Look under your dash to inspect this part.

Once you get the brake lights working, it should shift out of Park.

What possible cause the parking brake light remains lit after starting the engine?

Parking brake still on or a malfunctioning switch. You sure it's the parking brake light and not the "blown brake line light"?

My break lights wont go off when i park my car the break lights will not turn off. I cheked the break switch at auto zone and the fuss but no luck. what else can I do?

Try disconnecting the wires on the brake light switch, if the lights go off it's either a faulty switch or the switch position in relation to the pedal needs adjusting ( normally happens if brake pedal has at some stage been pulled up towards steering wheel, ie foot under the pedal )

Will not shift out of park

Chances are you're parked on a hill. You need someone to push on the car to take the pressure off the parking pin in the transmission. The other possible problem is there is a solenoid the won't release the gear shifter until the brake pedal is depressed. If you are pushing the brake pedal before trying the gear shift there is a malfunction in this system. This is not as easy to fix. If you aren't mechanically inclined I recomend taking that to a mechanic. If you are so inclined let me know and I can help guide you thru the steps.
