Also do not use 5w oil use heavier viscosity oil 15w40 or 20w will help keep oil pressure up

SOURCE: Oil pressure

At idle the oil pressure should be at least 20# at highway speed it should be at least 30# these pressures are on the low end higher is better.

In some cases where the oil is not changed properly, the oil pump screen maybe plugging or your oil filter is defective. Fram is a good filter. If there is no problem found, replace the pressure sensor.

SOURCE: While idling oil pressure is

Bad news. You are looking at replacing the crank and/or the rod bearings. They are worn. It is fine when the oil is cold and thick, but when the oil heats up it gets thinner and the gap in the bearing is too large to hold the pressure up. It will run like that for a long time but will get progressively worse until it is so low that you spin a bearing or you throw a rod. Just make sure that you keep the oil full, don't leave it idle any more than you need too, don't over rev it and try not to horse it. (don't make it work to hard) I have 289,000 and mine has been doing that for the last 70,000.

SOURCE: rebuilt 350 with low oil pressure

Did you rebuild it yourself? If so, did you remember the expansion plug behind the cam? Did you remember the 2 little 1/2" expansion plugs behind the timing gear?

Im stumped have a 08 superduty 6.4 just rebuilt the eng started eng has 10 psi oil pressure its a new oil pump every thing had breakin lube and the pressure releaf valve is all the way up,i have oil i

Sounds like there is wear elsewhere causing the drop in oil pressure. I thicker oil will raise the pressure but could also further damage the engine.

Just had an engine rebuilt not getting oil pressure

you need to pre pressure a new /rebuilt engine so you get oil into all the galleries , connect an electric drill to the oil pump drive and spin for a good 3-4 minutes , connect a pressure gauge as well so you can see the pressure build up

Why would my 2001 Sebring lxi 2.7l v6 rebuilt engine new sensors has oil light come on when stopping. why?

This is an oil PRESSURE issue, not oil level.
It is likely that when you stop, and the engine returns to idle, the oil pump is not creating enough pressure to push oil up to the top of the engine and lubricate the valve assembly.
I hate being the bearer of bad news, but the plastic impellers in most modern oil pumps do fail over time, especially if they've been disturbed by the work associated with an engine rebuild. Or, it could be that it is not sitting right on the pickup and feed tubes, and they are being blocked and causing pickup problems at low RPMs. The solution will involved dropping the pan to figure out what's going on with the pump.

Drops oil pressure an shuts off

If it has low oil pressure all the time check the cam bearings, if there is any damage engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced. if it only loses pressure when it gets warm check the pick up tube and make sure that it is not clogged. further investigation will need to be done to find out why vehicle is shutting off.

What should the oil pressure for a rebuilt engine

Pretty much dosen't matter which engine or manufacturer you are talking about, minimum pressure on a good rebuild should be at least 30psi at idle when completely warmed up.(I'd be happier with 40) If it were a used engine with lots of miles you could get away with 15 or 20, but with everything new, I'd be concerned if lower than 30.

Low oil pressure after engine warms.....

A 1999 Yukon DOES NOT have a vacuum advance. It is computer controlled timing. Low oil pressure is the result of some or all of the following : worn oil pump, worn cam bearings, worn crank bearings. Oil pressure also normally drops as engine warms because the viscosity of the oil changes with temperature.

Lost oil pressure

i wouldnt worry about it untill it gets lower than 10 lbs,the oil does get thinner as it warms up,if it does get that low warm or cold, then the mains are getting bad.

Oil pressure guage drops after engine warms up

Is it possible that you are using a different brand or weight of oil? 10w30 instead of 10w40 could potentially cause this.

Can also be caused by engine running warmer for some reason.

3 psi shouldn't be much of a concern.

You can try a heavier weight oil if you want it to be a little higher.
