Question about 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
I removed the screws that hold the lens in place but it does not come out, hangs up and does not fit through the opening.

in most cases you have to open the rear tailgate remove the panel and then you have access to everything in the door

Take a thin blade screw driver and gently pry between the rubber seal and the metal and pop the light out, replaced the bulb and pop the light back in. works fine.

if you buy some of those "on tv only" lights that are bubble shaped and plastic, you can duct tape those onto your license plate area and click them on or off when needed.

There is also a push in socket at the top of the light and a clip at the bottom. When the screws are all undone insert a flat screw driver under the light fitting about 4 inches from the top (remember to use a cloth under the edge of the screwdriver to avoid marking the paintwork) you should be able to push it out now.
