Open Question

Front driveshaft on 2002 jeep liberty replaced twice and keeps coming apart

Had front drive shaft replaced and it soon broke again at the back of shaft; replaced again and it came completely apart while in 4 wheel drive within two weeks

First thing to test is to see if the front driveshaft is getting engaged from the transfer case. With the vehicle in 4x4, and engine shut off, and in park, crawl under and try to turn the front driveshaft by hand. The driveshaft looks like a pipe that runs from the transfer case, located just behind the engine/transmission, to the front differential. If it rotates by hand, there is a problem with the transfer case. Some Jeeps have a vacuum actuator on the front diff that slides a collar inside the axle tube to engage it. I will watch for you findings, and you can leave me another message, and I will be happy to chat back with you on your findings.

may need drive shaft universal joint bearings.... if clunking is that bad it needs to be replace soon.... can be extremely dangerous if it comes apart.

Sound like you are having axle issues. Check the front and rear axles on a lift or off the floor on stand. Rotate the wheel by hand in foward and reverse rotation. If you hear click noises or hard to rotate then I am pretty sure the axle assembly are going bad. Also while the jeep are off the floor check your transfer case for oils for any metal shaving.

remove plugg on side of diff and stick finger in hole if you touch fluid you are good if not prepare to throw away your clothes and add fluid

I own an 02' Jeep Liberty. It is either the differential, or the drive shaft.
Is it the front or rear driveshaft? Does the Jeep drive? If the driveshaft
was bad, it wouldn't move, so I'm assuming he's screwing you,since driveshafts don't smoke.LOL. If your front or rearend lube has come all
out or very low, you could get smoking from the diffs,especially if the fluid hit's your exhaust. look under the jeep, to see if any fluid is leaking
from the front or rear driveshafts?good luck.

If you are talking about only the drive shaft joints being bad,take it out and take it to a driveshaft repair shop. Look in the yellow pages or call a trans shop and ask who they use to check,straighten and balance drive shafts. About $150.00 and may do it while you wait. Might as well put new joints in the rear one and balance while your there.

Rear window falls down


The same thing just happened to me. I took off the door panel, pulled off the white barrier, and found the problem. There is a white plastic connector at the bottom of the window that connects the cable to the window and the track for the power-window. The connector has broke and the cable cannot grip the connector so the window falls. Its hard to tell because it will still be connected to the track, its just a small part of the connector that broke off. I have found that the only way to fix it is to replace the whole assembly. Don't waste time taking apart the motor housing, it is a pain. I found, and bought, the whole assembly on ebay motors for $120.00 shipping and all. If you have some tech abilities it shouldnt be too bad. If you need more info, just e-mail me, Im waiting for my part and will be assembling soon.

HELP PLEASE !


When you get under the driverside of the vehicle you will see the front driveshaft coming from the transmission to the front differential. At the two ends there will be I think 6, 8mm bolts. 12 total. Loosen them all up. To get to them by rotating the driveshaft you'll have to put the front end of the vehicle on jackstands and put the transmission in nuetral. Remimber to have the parking brake on. Once loose hit the ends of the shaft with a rubber mallet( not a steel hammer). Sometimes corrosion builds up in the joint and can make it a pain to break free. Once the joints are loose, remove the screws you loosened earlier and the shaft should come out. Good Luck
