Why does the all-wheel drive keep disengaging when you need it?

Is the All-Wheel Drive Disabled Indicator on ?
An ABS DTC may cause the AWD Disabled light to illuminate. Check for ABS DTCs if no AWD fault is present.

The AWD data list can be used to assist in determining which type of fault is causing the AWD Disabled Lamp to illuminate. with a scan tool, verify the above data displays are within specification.
AWD temperature disables can be caused by an open circuit.

Using a scan tool, select the Body - Instrument Panel Cluster - Special Functions - Lamp Test mode. In the Lamp Test mode you can turn on or off the instrument panel indicators. All indicators will turn ON when commanded on and OFF when commanded off. The AWD DISABLE indicator should turn on or off as commanded.
If the AWD DISABLE indicator is always ON or always OFF, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

The AWD disable lamp illuminates when one of the following conditions exists for 5 seconds:
The PCM commands the solenoid ON and the voltage feedback remains high, B+.

The PCM commands the solenoid OFF and the voltage feedback remains low, 0 volts. This condition is present for 3 key cycles.

The PCM detects fluid temp is too high.

You need to have this hooked-up to a professional grade scan tool.

Will the relay fuse in a 2001 Azteck stop it from cranking

great question, sure , all cars with relays for start or ECU/EFI

not start, but only those with starter relays, cut cranking.

some cars have a IMMO that cut cranking, there is no rule

only what IS, matters, and that is clearly shown in call cars FSM.

and can very by, guess what, the engine option.

Pontiac AzteK?

Do please tell us what and Azteck is, google nets me ZERO.

so do tell .

and do tell the maker, if not AZxxxx?

i ill pretend its a pontiac... best wild guess.

2001 and look at all engines, not stated.

your car does have a relay marked 58 CRANK.

there are 3 permissive\'s. (logic here)

1: the tranny must be in PARK/neutral and IGN1 main fuse good

2: Fuse 35, IGN2.

3: and PCM wants to let you crank , the PCM does the crank , you only request cranking. by key actions.

The pcm might block cranking for secuirty reasons or IMMObililzer options on car, and they both had dash lamps telling you THERE STATUS. so look for them and read the lost operator guide on how.

why not post symtoms and ask for help.

and not guess at causes first.?

lots of cause.

if the starter dont crank, what to do.?

1: check (test) all fuses. if no fSM or

2: car battery charged to 12.6v and cable ends clean,

does car jumper cable start.?

3: do the dash lamps "warings" tell you WHY, IMMO or security lamp glowing saying, IM NOT HAPPY?

4: wiggle gear shifter or try to crank in neutral? while cranking?

5:are anything else dead, like head lights, check EVERYTHING.

post more facts get more help.

Do you know the diagram is for a 2004 pontiac azteck stereo

Although I couldn't find a specific graphic, this website should have all you need to find out which wire does what. It details what color each wire is and its purpose.

Everyonce in awhile my antilock brake light comes on then it says awd disabled in my 01 pontiac azteck its not all the time but its reoccuring can you help me?

probably an abs module. problems with abs modules are generally caused by water intrusion/tear in insulation material. awd is disabled by central computer because of bad signal by abs module. probably happens within a day of driving through rain/water puddle. for possible other solution, try the trouble shooting section of the service manual. You can access online repair info at:

I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek. The AWD Disable and Anti Lock lights are on and it doesn't want to accelerate? Anyone know or have had this problem?

The AWD Disable and Anti Lock lights can result from a bad wheel bearing as well as a bad speed sensor. They'll also come on if you have the spare tire on. Not sure if the acceleration problem is linked to the warning lights. Most car part stores have scanners they can check out the problem.

The anti-lock brake light comes on.and the button on the shifter doesnt engage to get it out of park.on my 2002 pontiac azteck.

I had the same problem with the shifter on my Aztek. It was in the wiring on the shifter, costs around $50 to repair.
