Question about 2000 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

Convertible top will not go up and down.

I can put the top up and down manually, and I can feel the resistance of the cylinders and what not just fine. I thought the motor may be blown but I would prefer to see if its a cheaper fix first. So I was wondering what the most likely problem could be?

You shouldn't feel resistance when moving the top manually - you should hardly be able to move it at all. If the pump runs, but the top won't move, then you most likely have lost some of all of the hydraulic fluid. The most likely source of the leak is one or both bad lift cylinders. If this has happened, the pump is probably screwed now, too. Your best bet is to plan on replacing the pump, both lift cylinders, and all the lines. If you try to save a few bucks by swapping out just the cylinders (for example), you will probably be back under the seat to replace the rest of the system in short order. From my own (unpleasant) experience, plan on doing it right the first time, and you won't have to do it twice.

There is a fuse No.20 (15amp) in the under dash fuse panel and a 25amp circuit breaker in the under hood fuse panel that controls the top.

SOURCE: mustang 2001 convertible top goes up but not down.

I've had a similar problem with my Mustang. What they did was replace the switch. I don't believe they come with 2 motors. But I would definitely check the wires and look for a loose wire that goes to the down relay. If you get a wiring diagram in the owner's manual, or even a repair manual, you should be able to find which wire.

SOURCE: convertible top won't go back up, can you help?

IT is probably a fuse. Does it work at all? my mustang had a busted cylinder and only 1 side would go up. If it doesnt work at all then check your fuses. With no manual you will have to use a flashlight and shine on them and see if one is blown. IF they all look good then I would go buy a testlight for about $10 and manually check the fuses for power. It oculd be the motor, however that will cost you several hundred dollars and that is if you install it yourself.

SOURCE: Convertible top goes down and won't come back up.

You are probably low on fluid.
Behind the rear seat is the motor/pump/reservoir.
With the top down, fill the reservoir till it overflows with ATF. Cycle the system a few times. Repeat till the reservoir will accept no more fluid.
Look for leaking lines or cylinders. The fluid must have gone someplace.
Always replace lines and or cylinders in pairs.

Can my 1995 convertable top go up manually

My convertible stopped working, the hydraulic cylinders had blown the seals. I had to disconnect the cylinders from the top. I recommend going ahead and taking the cylinders out so that they don't get in the way and prevent the top from going all the way down or damaging the top itself.

How do i put the top down manually on 98 900 saab

There's a red lever behind the rear passenger seat, fold down the rear seats to the trunk and you'll see it. Pull the lever down, and this should disengage the convertible motor. You should now be able to move the top up or down with some resistance against the hydraulic fluid left in the lines.

Convertible Top won't go down

Your top only has one motor. It powers a hydraulic pump that operates two hydraulic cylinders.
If one cylinder is not working, it is either damaged, worn or there is a problem supplying fluid to it.
Always replace cylinders in pairs.

You can change it to a manual top by removing the bolt at the top of the cylinders and lowering the both shafts down into the cylinders.

You are probably leaking hydraulic (ATF) fluid.
Check the lines and cylinders for leaks. Replace any leaking lines or cylinders. Always replace them in pairs.
When the leak is fixed...

With the top down, fill the reservoir with ATF.
Cycle the system a few times.
