Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
How can I manually lock the hatch. The remote works sometimes and will lock. But when it unlocks all the doors and the hatch, the hatch remains unlocked. How can I manually lock the hatch?
There is a manual lock/unlock lever on the inside of the hatch behind a small, almost square, cover.

Sorry to say I haven't had a chance to tackle the problem yet and no one has given me any suggestions. I recently did a repair to the driver side door for the power window and it was a huge pain as it was difficult to remove the entire mechanism and there were several rivets which needed to be drilled out and replaced. Hopefully I will not have this problem with the rear hatch.

Sounds like the actuator went out. There normally run 40-60 for the part and does not take long to replace normally 30 minutes.

I think you will find a small hatch on the inside of the tailgate, this will allow you access to unlock the tailgate.Possibly the lock actuator has failed.
