My '96 350 V8 has it on the passengers side, at the transmission, along the oilpan. If you're having problems like a bad starter, there is a relay between the ignition and the starter solenoid you might want to check first (it's located in the big fuse box on the driver's side), before paying $250 for a new starter. I found this out the hard way......

Looking up from under your truck, it's on your passenger side, just to the rear of your engine/front of your transmission. You should see it fairly close to your exhaust system.

Why would 350 engine start turning over when i hook battery cable up with key off?

You said motor my guess is that you pinched the small terminal wire on the starter solenoid or maybe bent the heat shield on the starter when the wires or terminals are closed or shorted the starter cranks check there 1st and then back track the wires up from there

On my 1997 K1500 4x4 with a Vortec V8, their is a coolant leak from the front of the engine area. The truck never gets hot or anything, it will leak water when engine is cold or hot. I want to know if...

If it's water pump, would be leaking from back of water pump pulley, also check both upper and lower coolant hoses that go to water pump, could also be water pump gasket.

1997 Chevy 1500 Starter Problems

The starter should have been mounted with a thin "shim" plate between the starter and the bell housing. (flywheel cover). It moves the starter out away from the flywheel. If your auto parts guy doesn't seem to have one, you can make one out of thin metal the thickness of a matchbook cover. Insure the starters housing is metal to metal with it's mount for good electrical contact.

I need to find where the starter is located on a 1997 chevrolet k1500 4X4

Should be located on the bottom of the engine on the passenger side. If you do not see it, follow the red wire from the battery, should take you to it. Hope this helps, let me know.

You can scan for error codes. Many auto parts stores have loaner meter for free. Call around Advanced Auto, AutoZone, VIP, NAPA, CarQuest, etc.

You can check for leaks in the intake vacuum hoses and other connections. With the engine running use a can of carburator starter sprayed on suspected places and see if engine speeds up. If so you found the leak!
NOTE: Do not spray starter fluid near or on hot engine parts or electrical elements, it will ignite very easily!

Have you check the fuel pump pressure ?
