What year of VW??? If it is a 2000-2004 it is most likely the brake light switch at the pedal. There was a few recalls on this switch. It should still be active for your vehicle if it was never done.

SOURCE: Brake lights not working and EPC light on the dashboard

probably you have either fitted the wrong bulb, accidently fitted the bulb wrong or shorted out the wiring or holder, look in your handbook for fuse location and double check your hatch bulb.

SOURCE: 2001 Jetta - won't start

2001 jetta gls turns over but wont start. In the past month the temp light on the dash would come on for approx 10 seconds then would go away. This happened 2-3 times. Over the past two weeks when I would start the car it would turn on, then immediatly turn off, only to turn back on within 1 try. This happened once. Yesterday while taking my son to school the car died, again only to turn back on immediatly with one try. Today I went to start the car and it turned on for 3 seconds then turned back off but this time will not start again. I checked all the fuses (one by one) at the panel inside the car on the drivers side. All were fine. The car turns over fine but will not start. Extremly frustrated...

How to clear a epc light from golf 5 fsi engine

If U don`t have VAGcom to read and erase the errors try first the brake switch if its ok (sometimes the brake lights remain turned on even if the brake pedal is released and this cause the epc light on).
If you see a engine speed decrease when epc turns on the error could be from admision *(air intake) pressure sensor . You can disconnect your battery minus*(ground) for 10 or more minutes to turn off the epc light but if you don`t resolve the problem epc will turn on again when U start the engine. My advice is to find a Diagnose cable and read the error to know exactly what is the problem

Vw golf lost all power and EPC LIGHT came on,started again after 10mins,but car feels like it pulling????

The EPC light normally comes on for electrical throttle issues. Either the gas pedal inside the car that fails or the motor actuator that fails on the throttle body causing the butterfly valve not to operate.

EPC light went on on me vw 2006 touareg

Hi there?
The EPC lights may come on if the brake light switch is not working, check and make sure the brake lights work, if not then you'll need to replace the brake light switch.

The ecp light has come on

Its actually EPC light. This light indicates to check the brake system. Its indicating towards brake assembly parts. The brake light, brake fluid, brake wirings, brake caliper, brake pads, the brake switch. On most of the cases its brake light switch problem causing the EPC light to come ON.there is also recall for this problem.Confirm this with your VW dealer. If its under recall, they will replace the switch for free. The brake lamp switch recall includes 99-07 beetles and jetta also.------------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
