look for a fusible link out. You need to check for output on the alternator that you installed. make sure the batteries are fully charged before that, otherwise its not going to read right. start from the source. also, you can disconnect the batteries from the sys and do a continuity check on the wires in the loom, so you can see if current has a path, or if you have an open circuit. hope this helps

manual voltage regulator or electronic ,either way its simple ,one wire from battery or ignition switch runs to regulator for the sensing then one from the alternator and another to earth .if stuck i have a 40yr old lucas manual in the shed ,or just fit a all in one alternator on ,not difficult

knowing the color codes can be a great help..usually in 12v reg system,from the regulator there are 6 white wire having a stripe codes,blue means neutral,green means field,black means ground to body,white means hot wired to +12v,yellow means to bat charging indicator going to instrument panel and finally red means to ignition....and always secure the regulators case to ground.

1986 diesel isuzu pickup standard 2.2l 4cyl. A New alternator installed. But still its draining battery, (did engine stall) or does battery drain parked?


The voltage regulator type depends on which alternator you have (there are 2 different ones), on one the regulator is attached to the outside of the alternator and the other it is separate and mounted on the firewall I think. See pictures below so you can ID what you have.

What is the clearance of inlet and outlet valve for mitsubishi 4DR5 engine.


When I set clearances, I like to do them while the engine is cool. I set the clearance for the diesels at 0.13mm for the intake and around 0.18mm on exhaust. Depends on engine wear. If the engine has high mileage, you may want to go less (0.001 to 0.002mm) on clearances.

I would suspect a head gasket being fitted incorrectly blocking the oil galley to the head.. Remove the rocker gear and push a wire down the hole to see haw far down it goes. If ok then check for blockage in the rocker gear . Bushes moving around.

How can i fix an air lock in a 4DR5 engine. i ran out of fuel and my canter stalled. when i put diesel in the tank the vehicle is just cranking


tell type year of vechicle.some diesel engine primed at fuel filter.using small hand pump primer or using hand vacuum pump connect to fuel return line in which it will pull fuel from tank to the diesel injection pump.

I have a 93 jeep grand cherokee changed altenator but still wont charge


If no damaged wiring is found, it's most likely an internal fault in the ECM (Engine control module, computer, PCM, ECU, whatever you want to call it, it goes by many names)
The Voltage Regulator is built into the ECM on virtually every Chrysler product (including Jeeps) after 1987 or so. And it is prone to failure. If it does fail, you either have to replace the ECM or install an External Chrysler Voltage Regulator, which requires some wiring harness modifications and a few parts that can be purchased at your favorite auto parts store.
To do the External conversion, you'll need :
1 Chrysler Voltage Regulator (virtually any Dodge/Plymouth from 1970 - 1986. It's best to order one for a 70's 4x4 Truck with a 318 engine though, to avoid any possible mix ups)
1 Chrysler Voltage Regulator Pigtail (this is the plug that connects to the regulator)
Roughly 10 feet of 14 gauge wire, possibly less, depending on where you want to mount the regulator.
Most, if not all Regulators now include a wiring diagram in the box, for this purpose, just follow the diagram and match up the field wires on the alternator with the ones in the diagram. On a '93 Jeep one field wire should be Blue, the other should be Green.

This is not a car question. I have a boat (Ford Escort Diesel engine) that uses a separate voltage regulator. My alternator has not been charging properly and there is a 5 amp drain in my system that I...


You can take your voltage regulator and alternator off and take to most auto parts store and they can test them to be sure.

A 5 amp drain is significant if it is a constant drain. You might want to use an accurant clamp on amp meter to troubleshoot it. I assume you installed a fuse panel, so start by pulling all fuses, and then putting them in one at a time - write down your readings. The one that is highest is probably the line you need to troubleshoot.

But before you go through all that, do you have a refrigerator on your boat that is DC? If so, I would make sure that it is turned off before spending time troubleshooting.

On ALL gasoline models there is no separate voltage regulator. The regulator circuitry is contained in the engine controller. If this circuitry is found faulty, the entire engine controller computer must be replaced as a unit.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figure 1)

This procedure covers diesel models only.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Release the spring clips and pull off the regulator wiring plug.
  3. See if your bolts are rusty or hard to remove, if so use lubricant and allow to sit for a few minutes before removing.
  4. Remove the regulator.
To install:
  1. Install the regulator and secure using the hold-down bolts.
  2. Hook the spring clips to the wiring plug. Make sure the clips are fully engaged.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .
  1. Remove snow/ice shield.
  1. Remove engine air cleaner intake tube (9A624) .
  1. Disconnect the generator voltage regulator wiring (14305) to the voltage regulator.
  1. Remove wiring connector bracket.
  1. Loosen the drive belt tensioner (6B209) and remove the drive belt .
  1. Remove the bolts holding the voltage regulator to the generator bracket (10A313) .
  1. Remove the voltage regulator from the generator bracket .
Installation
  1. Position the voltage regulator on the generator bracket .
  1. Install the bolts and tighten to 40-55 Nm (30-40 ft-lb).
  1. Install the drive belt over the generator pulley .
  1. Adjust the drive belt tensioner as outlined in Section 03-05 .
  1. Connect generator voltage regulator wiring to the voltage regulator. Tighten generator Battery Positive Voltage (B+) wire attaching nut to 9-12 Nm (6.5-9 ft-lb).
  1. Install wiring connector bracket.
  1. Install engine air cleaner intake tube .
  1. Install snow/ice shield. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more for powertrain control module to relearn the strategy.
  1. Connect battery ground cable .
