Question about Cars & Trucks
I just purchased a used 2007 Ford Fusion with a manual transmission, no auto headlamps, kinda stripped down. I was wondering if it is so stripped that it doesn't come with lights that come on when the doors are open? I can turn the dome lights on manually but will not come on automatically. I was wondering if maybe there are supposed to be courtesy lights under the dash, etc or are the domes supposed to be coming on automatically? I really need this at night to get my granddaughter out of carseat, etc. I am afraid that eventually I am going to forget to turn them off and run down the battery. I have been through the owner's manual multiple times and did not find a reference to auto interior lights. It did refer to a map light and front upper console that I do not have and I feel better learning that the lights are supposed to go off automatically after 30 minutes if you forget them but I would prefer an auto off. Anybody got any ideas? Should I have under dash lights? Should the domes come on automatically? Thanks.
There should be a button inside the door arch, on the hinged side, that activates the interior lights when the door is opened, this button also turns the light off when the door is closed.
Find this button and push / activate it manually with your hand.
If the light is not turning on and off, check that the switch on the interior dome light is in the "DOOR" position, not the OFF or ON position. this is usually the middle position.
Check all the Auto door light buttons on all doors, you may find one that is loose (not springing back into position) this will need replacing as it could be the cause of the interiour light on working automaticly.
I hope some of this helps

SOURCE: Interior dome lights stay on.
I would ask a clarification request but it can't be done for this format. Anyway. Does the car have any type of aftermarket add on? Alarm, remote car start?
The Bonneville has a very sensitive electrical system. If there is an add on device there's a possibility that it has failed. There's more to installing an aftermarket device in a Bonneville than a simple install in a 'normal' car.
Another thing to check is the trunk and hood lights/switches. It's possible that the switch is broken or failed and is causing you the problems. Check to be sure that the trunk light and under hood light turns off when closed. They do take quite a beating over time.
Hope that helps.

Spray inside the center door latch with WD40 or silicone lubricant. You might have to remove or partially remove the plastic shield cover the opening. It's the part the door latches too, spray all around inside there and that should allow the switch to release. The switch either dries out or gets dirty and sticks, the spay will loosen and clean it.

THE SWITCH MIGHT BE STUCK! OPEN YOUR DOOR, LOOK FOR A BLACK ROUND SHAPE BUTTON AND GRASP THE ROUND EDGES WITH YOUR FINGER AND PULL OUT AND SEE IF YOUR DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON, ALSO CHECK THE FUSES AND LAST CHECK YOUR INTERIOR LIGHT BULB. GOOD LUCK!

the actuator for the dome light is actually located inside the lock mechanism. Have you checked to make sure the dome light override button is in the out position?
