Ford windstar wont go into gear intermitten

Battery was dead previous evening, charged battery. This morning went outside to move van, it would not go into any gear, thought for sure it is the pump, this afternoon went outside and the van moves perfectly. Thinking the range sensor, anyone else have a problem like this?

When batteries die the CPU program has a tendency to become corrupted . The normal method to reset it is to use a code reader but some times switching on and off and back on may re-set some parts of the program. Run the fault codes to see if you have any faults recorded as a check

I believe you are right, I scanned for faults and there were none there, but the van drives normally now after the key was cycled a few times. I have worked on VW for years and when the battery goes dead on those cars there are some crazy problems sometimes, just wasn't sure if Ford was the same thing.

Glad that is sorted. Remember to reset the CPU it is always recommended to use a scanner

SOURCE: 2002 Windstar wont go into gear

These are common for the pump shaft splines stripping in the torque converter. The transmission will need to be removed to fix it. Before you condemn the trans, does the speedo move and the van doesn't or do you hear any grinding when you put it back into park? Or can you push the van in park (Broken CV shafts)?

SOURCE: I have a 2001 BMW Z3. The battery went dead last

most new BMW's the fuse block is located behind the glove box. There should be a pair of twist plastic fastners at the back of the glove box, twist and remove the plate and you should find the fuse box and fuse locater list.

SOURCE: Battery keeps dying on 2001 Ford Windstar.

Check your battery terminals make sure they are clean and corrosion free.
Also check all ...A-L-L courtesy lights in your car. there are some ceiling mounted lights that are passenger operated and may be on... Also check your glove compartment and consoles for lights.
Also check for charger cords... These have indicator lights and sometimes can drain the batt as well.
Also, under the hood, is a gravity activated lamp . Open the hood and make sure that it's going off and staying off as the hood closes...
Let me know if you find anything...

SOURCE: I have changed the alternator and battery in ford

The battery cables or the circuits that operate your alternator are probably bad. There is also a good chance that the alternator is no good. I have gotten several bad alternators straight out of the box. Remember: NEW is not the same thing as GOOD. If new and good were the same thing, we would have no use for the word: "WARRANTY" I would recommend having your charging system tested to see what is causing the malfunction. You can waste a lot of your hard-earned dollars trying to "guess" what the problem is.

Have a load test done on the battery to check for dead cell as what you describe fits that problem profile. New is a relative term as either brand new or new to you (second hand)

Take your battery in for testing after charging it. Then, to avoid pulling the Alternator for nothing, drive to a local Autozone, Advance, or Oeilys and ask them to check your charging system on the Van.
Consider taking an extra battery if you have one to fit, so you can get back home after the test. Run the van with the charger connected until you get good heat, then reduce the blower fan speed to minimum. Then disconnect charger.
If you are still stuck on the road, jumpstart the van until it is warm, using the jump car to charge the battery so you can go home and try again. Just leave the battery jumpers connected to the struggling van battery a few minutes so the old battery has a chance to charge.

Hi

It sounds like a broken earth wire, check the main one from the car battery to the car bosy, or to test it get a thick cable roughly the same as the "black" earth lead from the battery attach it to the car body somewhere and the other red to the battery terminal if the car starts you know it is an earth problem. they do often break off the gearbox on these models, so do check. there will be 3 main earth wires in total

If it continues have system checked by service station. The check charging system could be temporary until Battery is fully charged. If this caused any damage I would be suprised, we all have had battery drains from time to time.Good Luck.
