Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

2000 expedition 5.4 triton with a kenne bell supercharger. The maindrive belt is squealing, glazing and craking within a 1000 kilometers

I have changed tensioner pulleys, idler pulleys, inspected the crank, a/c, power steering and alternator grooved pulleys thinking there might be burrs eating the main serpentine drive belt but they all appear to be fine. Alignment of all pulleys and both belts are good. I don't know what to look for now. Any suggestions

What you describe is an indication that the serpentine belt is under a load that it is not designed to operate under. Either the supercharger is suffering impellor interference at rpms or the bearings are not spinning freely or the boost at rpms is producing excessive load on the belt. Take it to a speed shop that handles super chargers and can do a dyno test to see exactly what is happening under rpm and see if you can get a better quality belt to do the job.

Testimonial: "Thanks Bill. Hard to find a good speed shop around here! I run Gator back belts. Haven't found anything better. Do they make a heavier duty belt? This problem started after I had it dyno tuned. The main pulley system is an 8 groove set up. The motor puts out 400bhp and 400 torque. The 8 rib belt should handle this no problem. The supercharger runs off of the alternator with a 6 rib belt and I have not had a problem with that. I'm looking into finding a different set up to power the SC. Any suggestions?"

most super chargers That I am familiar with run a toothed belt but the means that you would have to change the pulleys top and botton for it to work. All the drag racers that use superchargers run toothed belts as there is a more positive drive with less flex in the belt . Grooves equal heat and friction and under load equal slippage .

SOURCE: change serpentine belt and tension pulley and idle pulley and

could be the alternator, water pump
take the belt and spin all the pulleys and listen for noise and make sure they turn smoothly
another trick is to take a can of wd40 or equivalent and spray the bearings 1 at a time till the noise goes away or quiets down

Squeaking rotary noise from engine

It is possible you have a glazed belt - it is fine, it just slips until it warms up. If you have "V" belts, there is a belt dressing you can spray on that will cure the problem. If you have serpentine belts ( a wide belt that has several ribs on the inside ) you can us a small dab of Dielectric grease on the belt. smear a small dab across the ribs of the belt ans start the engine - the squeal should go away quickly.
Hope this helps!

Hyundai accent squealing very loud

You need to replace the belt.
Once a belt gets glazed it will slip no matter how tight it is.

Chirping noise coming from engine compartment in my 2006 ford expedition 120k, chirps are 2 to 5 minutes apart

Chirping noise under the hood is a classic symptom of a loose or bad belt. Has the serpentine belt been replaced? At 120k miles, I'm sure it is glazed and/or brittle. Check also if there are any other belts, note their condition and replace if necessary.

85 chevy celebrity. replaced alternator. that one squealed 2. got another. still hear a squeel. does not squeel when belt is off.

ALTERNATOR BELT NEED ADJUSTING AND REPLACING IT GLAZED. WHEN DRIVE BELT GET GLAZED SHINY CAUSE IT TO SLIP AND SQUEAL.REPLACE ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT. AND ADJUST IT DRIVE BELT TENSION BY TIGHTEN THE UNTIL YOU CAN PRESS DOWN ON THE BELT IN THE LONGEST RUN. YOU NEED TO PRESS DOWN BELT AND GET A 1/4 TO 1/2 INCH DEFLECTION IN BELT.THE BELT CANT BE TOO TIGHT WHERE WHEN YOU PRESS DOWN AT IT WONT GIVE IN NONE TOO TIGHT, WILL CAUSE PREMATURE ALTERNATOR BEARING FAILURE IF DRIVE BELT TOO TIGHT.
