SOURCE: Rear Axle Bearing

i know for a fact that the bearing comes with the hub., and if the old bearing is badly damage you may need to heat it to remove it from the axel...so this may be a rather big job if your not equipt
with torch or other ...

SOURCE: 94 Geo Prizm CV or driveaxle?

on this type of vehichle, you have two axles in the front; one going to each side. Chances are that the boot at the axle joint was torn and that is why you are having problem. In teh past people used to replace the boot, this day and age its actually cheaper to replace the axle. So you would need to replace that side of the axle (the half shaft).

SOURCE: subaru cv axle noise?

Do you know if this car has ever been recked? if your going thru that many axels makes me think something is not running true, a wheel bearing would not make a cv joint in a axel go bad. Did you replace the axels? or did you have them done at a shop, and did you see the old axels after they were replaced. You got bigger problems than a wheel bearing. From what i can gather some thing is bent or your getting bunch of bad axels witch i dought.

SOURCE: replacing the front axle on a 93 subaru legacy

When I replace the axle halves, I run the Nut off till it is level with the shaft end. THen take a piece of wood and set it across the shaft and hit the wood with a hammer. Usually only takes one or two hits and pops right out. Then I remove the nut and finish removal . Hope this helps, Good luck and have a great day.

I see there are two different axles listed, with and without abs. One is slightly longer than the other. You could have the wrong axle or it could be something inside the transmission. I doubt the passenger side axle would affect the driver side.
Can you raise the front end and make the noise with the car parked ?

I would still suspect the drive axle because it could very well be the inner joint of the axle clicking and not making the accustomed noises related to a drive shaft noise. Thanks Megabuck

REPLACING DRIVERSIDE AXLE

Chilton's or Haynes manual. And someone there to help. All of these front-wheel drive cars are set up the same. The most difficult of these are Hondas, because they are so intent in jamming everything in there where you have to yoink stuff out that isn't even associated with the axle job at hand, like alternators, etc.
Geos aren't too bad to work on. Just get a rebuilt axle, turn in your old one for credit. You don't want to piddle with boots. Take it from me. It's easier to just get a rebuilt unit and putting it in there.
